IMO it makes no difference...I dont think it would be worth sending it in, but then again..I like to tie my own.

The majority of CRK owners can tie the lanyard themselves. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you still have the cord you can always just give them it with the knife. That way they can ut it back on or off.

The lanyard is a nice touch but it's so easy and cheap to do yourself that it wouldn't make any difference to me as a buyer.

Why the heck did I get an infraction? I SPECIFICALLY SAID that I was not selling it here but was asking for advice that would make it more attractive to sell locally. What gives? I thought "NOT A FOR SALE THREAD" in the title was a bit of a clue. Did the mods even read the message?

Riiiiiiiiight. You only wanted advice about the lanyard, and the reason you put the knife you were selling in the title and specified condition wasn't because you wanted to tell everybody you're offering a knife for sale, it was ... um ... um ... because you wanted to give everybody on the forum a chance to try out the "report spam" button ...

...or it might have been because you're a complete idiot, which is why we didn't ban you. You won't get the benefit of the doubt twice, though.

Get a Gold Membership; then you can sell all the knives you want in the appropriate forum.

Actually man, I just don't know if I will be returning. This is very silly. Nearly every thread in this group has the title of the knife in it. I gave information about it so that people wouldn't have to ask for clarification. I'm a computer programmer and I'm used to posting as much information as possible to avoid exactly that problem. I got the information I needed plus what feels like a power game. If you're just trying to angle for some money that's no problem but a little warning would have been nice. Instead, making me feel like a fool when I'm just trying to get honest information has rather turned me off of this place which is disappointing.

Wish things would have turned out differently. I have purchased several items from people here and would surely have gotten a gold membership and put it in a sale thread if I wanted to sell it here.

I will say that if you think calling people who do something that are just misunderstandings "complete idiots", it explains a lot about you. Check out my posts, brother, just constructive and hopefully contributing something. course it's easier to stick your head up your own ass and call someone an idiot.

Sad day man - good board - bad mod.

Actually- one more post before Cougar gets upset that I dare take the same tone with him as he did with me - BEFORE trying to be courteous.

Enough of you know me to know that I have been on boards off and on since 1996 and before that on the newsgroups - and before that on BBSs in California.

For years I've seen people interact with each other in ways that are completely unlike they would if they were having a face to face. If Cougar had seen me at a knife show asking what I might get for a blade or asking a dressing question like this thread (see original post paraphrased below), he would have just asked if I was trying to sell it. Because it's so much easier to push the SPAM button as he calls it instead of asking questions, it's become the exception rather than the rule to find courtesy online. People simply find it easier to be rude - not everyone, and I appreciate the honest answers I got to my question and it really helped. In general, however, one finds that those who have some measure of control online (some mods, bloggers, Matt Drudge) feel that they can and should use it to push people that they don't like. This is not a way to build a community and it's what makes the internet such an unfriendly place for some people. My wife, for instance, showed me a thread where a mod had banned a user on a motherhood board for suggesting that breastfeeding in public might upset other people. Ick.

As my account will likely be gone before I even wake up, I'll just say thanks to those who helped me out on this board before this idiocy. Sorry to those who are reading this drivel instead of learning more about the knives we love. Finally - Too bad. Honestly too bad to the community that has gotten to the point where being given "the benefit of the doubt" includes a free helping of personal insult. There was no need to tell me you're doing me a favor yet call me a complete idiot. Bad form there.

Original post was explaining in detail the nicks on my nkonka knife and asking if I should send it back to CRK to have the lanyards replaced - I had cut them off when I got the knife. I was asking so as to determine if the lack of the lanyards would seriously impact the value of the knife.

Four members decided I wasn't spamming and offered help - people that subsequently did NOT get PMs from me offering a quick sale. Obviously other people, likely tired of seeing so much real spam and mis-evaluating mine reflexively, decided I was spamming.

(edit to fix spelling)

A lot of people have tried to dodge the rules using the same tactics, I am not saying you were but plenty have.

You recieved an edit and a warning explaining the rules, not the end of the world. Please follow the rules of the site and you will always be welcome. That is a common online courtesy you should be well aware of with your experience.

Take a deep breath and relax.

Honestly, I'll admit to being a little overzealous in my replies but I do think it bears mentioning that calling a stranger a complete idiot without seeking an explaination first is more than a little rude. The main issue is the sense of distrust. Imagine that I'm new enough that I thought "NOT a sale thread" in my title might be taken for the truth. This isn't ebay - I thought my audience would take me at my word.

This has turned into a thread about Bladeforums policy so it belongs in Bladeforums Service & Support.

Sure, maybe your intent was not to sell, but if so, why wouldn't you just ask a simple question?

"If I am reselling a CRK knife, should I first send it back in for a factory lanyard?"

Not only would it save you from carpal tunnel, but that question would probably not be reported as spam. . .

Cougar - Thank you for moving the thread - I didn't want to keep people from reading the good stuff about knives instead of the crap that comes out of my mouth.
