How do you guys feel about selling or trading a current CRK you have for a new one you have your eye on ??? Being a huge CRK fan, I always have a hard time parting with Any of my CRK. I have sold others in the past to buy a new one and its always been difficult. I have sold other companies knives to buy another cRK and have never even thought about it. I have a Busse NMFBM that I have been tempted to sell figuring I could buy 2 CRK with it, but I know I will never have the funds to buy another, so it still sits collecting dust....lol.

Just wanted to find out if you guys have a hard time selling a CRK is all, even if the funds are going towards another ??? For me, the " Out with the old, In with the new " quote is tough !!!

I have a Lg. Regular I don't think I'll every be getting rid of. If anything I like the Regular design more then the 21 or Classic.

I traded a large classic for a custom shop game warden...not exactly a huge mistake since I love the warden, too, but for me the last time I'll sell/trade any of my chris reeve knives unless there's an emergency and I have no other choice. wouldn't trade any of them for newer offerings, either, just love them too much! you carry and use a knife long enough and it's part of you. besides, keeping my "old" CRKs is an excuse to buy more new ones. :D

I have sold several CRK's and I wish I still had em all.

My feelings exactly.

Here is a sad tale, old as time...

I once had a beautiful large "P" Sebenza, clipless, that had been refitted with a BG-42 new style (regular) blade. I never thought I'd use it, and traded it off. Biggest mistake of my life (after passing on Apple at $19 a share).

I do regret selling/trading a few CRKs. At the time I figured "No big deal, I'll just replace 'em later" - well, I don't see that happening any time soon with either the plain Umfaan or small plain Regular Sebenza with blue Spirograph damascus blade (the two that I miss the most).:(:o

Since I prefer the Regular Sebenzas over the newer flavors...I doubt I'll be making any changes.

Currently a small is getting the pocket time. I'm liking it even more than the large.

OUCH! That IS a sad tale....

I miss my Small Regular a lot! I took a large Insingo (I really love this blade make no mistake) to give it a try but...

Small Regular Sebenza. What a great knife. If I see a photo of it I long for it again. I really need to get one of these again. Had it for 1 and a bit years. Used it for everything short of a screwdriver (never understood the use of a knife as a screwdriver) Hunting, skinning, cutting wire, bushcraft related stuff etc etc. I really had a bond with this knife. Took me three years of saving to buy it. It meant something significant in my life as I bought it after I graduated with my first degree. The Insingo is struggling to replace the significance of the Small Reg.

I made custom scales for it as well (see the orange G10...)

Only way to depart with it was that I was mugged. :thumbdn::(

So....to answer nyefmaker.

I could never part with any CRK. They mean to much for me. I love them to much. They mean something special in my life.

Could not do it. I have 15 or so one-piece knives (not quite as many as you nyefmaker)...some of them I bought at a reasonable/good price with every intention of selling them for a small profit. Still can't do it.
If I see something I absolutely have to have - I'll save the money until I can buy it - or put it on the credit card. Some of the "specialties" I have acquired over the years (Nkonka 3V, Kathathu's, Al Mar's) I will never sell, come foreclosure or high water.

In the past collecting guns I have met other collectors and have become friends with, and when I have sold to them they will give me 1st chace to buy back if they ever sell again. It makes selling the good stuff easier knowing you might get it back someday. That is the fun part of collecting and not getting carried away with it, because someday someone will have to sell all of what I have collected. Like the old saying you can't take it with you, but I would like at least one sebenza in my pocket when they put me away.

I've traded an Aviator, several small standard regular and classic Sebs, an Mnandi, a large cocobolo Seb, 5.5" Green Beret, a small African blackwood Seb, a small micarta classic Seb and a large regular BG42 Seb. I don't even remember what I got for most of them in trade. I wish I would have kept them. Right now, I have an Umnumzaan, small micarta Seb, large micarta Seb and Nyala. Other than a large and small desert ironwood Seb, I am not really in the hunt for any CRK's. I'm keeping all of my CRK's right now, thanks :D.

I would like to get a Mountaineer II though...

Trade them to buy more CRK's is acceptable :D

love the orange, I have the orange g-10 on a classic. Sorry to hear that that is the one that got robbed...

as for me, no reason to part with them, and do not want to. unless I would ever need the money that my knives represent in value... fat chance of that happening.

For years I would keep all knives - even if they held no appeal for me after a while.

Now with wife, kids, mortgage and crap economy the process has changed, and I try to keep my collection to a manageable size and only buy knives with the proceeds from the sale of others.

I recently let my Large Sebenza go as I wanted to move up to a large unique graphic Sebenza. It was hard to do as I really liked that knife - but it just made sense.

The good thing is - it went to another BF member who appreciates it as much as I did. So selling sometimes gives others the opportunity to pick up discontinued model or try one at a reduced price that they otherwise may not have purchased new. I have picked up a few that way myself.

So I do think selling to use the funds for another is acceptable - depending on your situation.

I had both a large and small regular Sebenzas. Sold both and replaced them with with Classics that I'll never get rid of. I very much regret that I sold off a Umfaan that I owned for about 6 months. Would love to find anoher one of those!!!

This is the situation I find myself in. I really would like to have a new folder so as much as I hate to do it I think I am going to sell or trade one or two of my fixed blade CRKs, and I love 'em, but can't keep them all.

Now that I have my EDC needs pretty much covered, I don't think I'd ever sell an older CR knife for a newer one unless it is something REALLY special (like maybe a run of Mammoth annual LE's). I have traded/sold newer model CR knives for older, more collectable models without a second thought.
