Selling/Trading Old CRK For NEW Ones ???

I'd have to be darn sure I liked the new better than the old before trading. For example, if you trade a regular Sebenza with a bg42 blade for a new clasic Sebenza and then discovered you liked the regular with bg42 better, well you'll have a hard time trading back.

I've traded an Aviator, several small standard regular and classic Sebs, an Mnandi, a large cocobolo Seb, 5.5" Green Beret, a small African blackwood Seb, a small micarta classic Seb and a large regular BG42 Seb. I don't even remember what I got for most of them in trade. I wish I would have kept them. Right now, I have an Umnumzaan, small micarta Seb, large micarta Seb and Nyala. Other than a large and small desert ironwood Seb, I am not really in the hunt for any CRK's. I'm keeping all of my CRK's right now, thanks :D.

I would like to get a Mountaineer II though...

There is one for sale on ebay NIB for $255. I thought about buying it, but I have a Mountaineer 1. I would never dream of selling it. Before I bought it, I was torn b/w buying the Mountaineer 1 and the Busse SAR 3. I decided to buy both and keep them. Great knives!

For me, the " Out with the old, In with the new " quote is tough !!!

In business, they say, "New customers are silver, old customers are gold."

If you don't sell or trade your current CRKs, you will find the money for new ones eventually. On the other hand, if you do have an extensive collection, with several knives that are close variants of each other, you could consider moving a couple of them.

I have enjoyed reading all of your replies this week, I am glad to see I am not the only one that has a hard time parting with a CRK, even if it is for a new one !!! I traded a mnandi for a Neil Roberts. I really liked the mnandi, but I also really like the Neil Roberts, so that worked out for me. I had a new strider sng that I hated and traded it for a used umnumzaan......For those of you that know me, I am Very Happy with that trade !!!. My first small 21, I had it for one day and sold it, it just did not fit my hands right. Same with a small dual stud regular, though I wish I had given it more time. I traded it for a unique small sebbie that was a safe queen. I sold it and have regretted it ever since. It was really nice and I should have just used the darn thing....lol. I sold a Jereboam II and Project II because I was not fond of the serrations or the clip point ( prefer the shadows spear point better ).

Its always tough. I have pondered selling my bocote mnandi and a couple gerber bolt actions for a new CRK folder. The gerbers, I will not be too broken hearted to sell them, but the mnandi woud be tough. I would still have 3 left, but its tough ya know ?

But is selling a safe queen CRK okay if our going to buy another CRK ? I think it depends on which safe queen it is ! I know I am keeping my OPR knives for sure, I dont see me selling any of them, especially since they are discontinued and getting harder to find, especially at a good price.

Decisions Decisions !!!

Well I did not sell my CRKs but I did just sell two discontinued spydercos so I could fund a Mnandi. Slowly I'm converting all my EDCs to Chris Reeve knives.

I have sold several sebenzas in the past, I don't regret it because when times got tuff you always have a way to get money with a sebenza. Fact is that sebenzas retain the value. you cant do that with a spyderco or Benchmade. chris reeves knives are just awesome. I just got a new sebenza21, I will have to keep this one because it was born on my Birthday.

Well Guys, I did it. I traded 2 knives for an XM-18 non flipper. My small regular vines went ( I never used it since I got it back from the crk spa last year ). I also let my bocote mnandi go ( I have 3 mnandi remaining is the only reason ). In turn, I got a XM-18 3 1/2" non flipper with a yellow scale and an orange scale. Its always a tough decision trading a CRK away for me. I feel I got a great knife in return. Now I will finally have a Large Regular Sebenza, Umnumzaan, Strider SMF ( its actually one of the good ones ), XM-18. I now have 4 of the finest folders ever made I believe. Its always tough, especially now with my wife and I's job situation, funds for one would be a long time coming. So trading or selling some that I dont use to get one I have wanted ???

I will say that I plan on using it and not have it sitting in the safe. I really like the yellow handle on it and the orange handle will be great during hunting season. I opted to looking for a non-flipper because I am so used to the sebenza, umnumzaan, strider that a non-flipper will feel right at home.

I just traded a small classic with micarta inlays for a small regular plain. Of course I got a swamp rat rat warden also, so I am pretty happy with my trade. The inlays really weren't for me, and I have been wanting to try out a regular due to the blade shape.

I think you will really like the small regular. The regular profile is my favorite. I like the blade shape much better and the overall handle design just suits me more than the 21 style. I have had 3- 21's and have sold them all because they just did not fit my hand well. Havent yet tried a large 21. maybe someday I will get one. I had a couple small regulars over the years and have sold them as I edc a large regular NCIS sebenza, or umnumzaan.

I am down to only 1 small sebenza now and its a keeper. Its the "P" less style sebenza with ATS-34 blade. It has a regular sebenza blade shape with the classic style handle; Best of Both Worlds IMO. I have a thread with pics in it. I traded for a straight clip from a fello member to make it original as someone added a new style clip. As soon as it arrives, its off to the crk spa. Will post pics when it returns.

I think you've got an all-star lineup there Tom, and unless you are targeting a specific group of knives (P's, LE's, etc.) you should be quite satisfied for awhile. You can't get much better than those without going custom, and that's abit of a crapshoot anyway.

Since you said your plan is to use and not store these knives, it would be interesting to see which one got the most pocket time after a few months of ownership. I've had all three and have my own opinions, but would like to hear yours

Take care buddy.

Subliminal message - and don't forget to let me know if you get tired of that little one

Thanks, Its a good problem to have right ???...lol. I definately plan to use it and compare it to the others. I definately know how the CRK perform....Flawless !!! Havent carried the strider much at all. The XM-18 will make a welcome addition. Maybe in a month or so, I will do a full fledged detailed review of the 4 knives after using them all equally. I am sure many will be interested in that....:)
