Semi-annual "Can we keep prices on the XC?" thread

I have found it easier to set a more realistic price based off what others have sold, are selling, are tried to sell their blades for.

When I can't find a prices to compare against I am always uncomfortable with blindly setting a price.

I always feel like someone is ashamed or has something to hide when they remove the price.

Well, no one needs to be ashamed of the prices recently, LOL, they're pretty darn low!

Are the mods of this forum also in charge of the Busse Exchange? Can we set our own rules (within reason)? How about a poll on whether to require that the price stays posted?

I agree, leave 'em up. I've been saying it for years. This forum is as receptive as I've seen to that request, which must mean we're waayyyy smarter than the average bear!

Easy answer.

Quote the add and ask a question. It's locked into the thread then.

Take that "sellers that erase prices"! :p

LOL

I've considered that.

Now, the reason I asked (and never suspected this would go this deep - esp. w/o dissention): What did that Satin/Snake AD go for??? It was already gone before I could look. Just curious as mine has VERY sentimental attachment but always curious.

And. . .

Why would a buyer request it be taken down???? I can't even understand that one. Are they planning on flipping it?? If so, be proud of your flip. If another reason, I'd love to hear it. Only b/c I can't think of one.

No idea. Maybe trying to keep the true price from the wife? I enjoy seeing what kind of crazy prices, high or low, people can pass off in the exchange.

As one who's guilty of sometimes replacing my prices with "sold" I do it if I'm embarrassed at the price I sold it for and to protect someone else who has more patience to reflect the actual market value. I don't want to undercut someone else's sale or falsely devalue the market because I needed the money quick, usually to fund another purchase.

All it takes is one person to quote the initial ad and thus capture the first price for posterity.

+1 here!!! leave em up. It is great for research and posterity. I think I'll have to try that capture/post to lock trick until it sinks in to some of them. LEAVE THEM UP---OVER!!!

i say that all of us that want the Price to remain put a code in our ads..

like PRP...(price remains posted)

anyone without this in the sale post gets quoted.

And while we are on the subject...how about leaving pictures up for awhile too

I don't know the reason for the dogpile.

Unless people are worried about the IRS, I have no clue what is to be gained by erasing the prices.

I like to see them and thereby have a gauge of market price on items.

This is why I wish they were left up as well. I like to know what stuff was sold for, also to know what great deals I might have missed. :o

Because they just found out they over paid and are embarrassed by the fact.

That's also another reason to leave them. Maybe it would help the buyers undertand what they're after as well.

This is also another reason why I prefer time stamped personal emails over "I'll Take It" in the sale thread. (It also avoids the pile up of who posted (I'll Take It" in the f/s thread versus who got an email in first:rolleyes:.)

A person may have posted "email sent" in the f/s thread, but it has been my experience that that person is not always the one who ends up purchasing it.
Most times, someone sneaks under the radar and uses the email because it's discreet.
No harm done, no body is embarassed, and the the price stays for other's to use.

Can someone also help me understand why folks list who the recipient/buyer was next to the items in the threads after the item is sold.

So we can go to that guy and get the blade we missed out on. LOL

(No, I've never done that!)
