Seminar of the High Performance Knife

Hi David,

I haven't made it to one of the seminars yet but I hope to be able to soon. Just watching Ed at work is a joy but to forge your own blades must be quite a thrill. Only another year and half before I get another week of vacation a year. Here's a link to some snapshots I took of Ed at work during one of my visits. Hopefully Bill, Eldon and Butch will be in the shop when I finally make it up.

Anyway, I was thinking of that camp knife you bought from Scott the other day, it's one of my great disappointments that my down payment money wiped out my bank account when he needed to sell. You really should send it to me for about a week, I'll send you one of mine in return...;)

Take care,
Jose

 What an experience! Imagine the following

1) Beautiful and free Wyoming, in the vicinity of the original 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous site on the Wind River at the famous Willow Bow Ranch.

2) Excellent food, including fresh Wyoming Elk, Deer, Rabbit, Duck, Goose, Walleye and Catfish.

3) Day-end review session, complete with "Beverages" and super discussions.

4)From 9:00 am to Midnight everyday: forging, grinding, polishing, heat treating and learning secrets of knife making from THE Mastersmith with a lifetime of experience.

5) The only breaks (if you wanted) were for shooting rifles, pistols, hunting, fishing and eating delicious food that you can't buy in any restaurant.

All students received Ed's written (never before published) 44 step confidential process for making the finest high performance blades.

The Bottom Line is: It was way more than a "Knife School." It was an unforgettable getaway to a grand knife making vacation. It was worth every penny and I would recommend it to anyone who loves the rugged West and appreciates the Ed fowler Philosophy of Knives. :)

Thanks for the post, Rev. You're right, it is a great getaway. The last time I was up to visit a couple of young cowbows were "breaking in" horses in a muddy corral. Very exciting, and dangerous, and not something you'd normally encounter living in a big city.

Jose and David, just thought I'd drop you a note and let you know that I'm still bangin and a grindin and makin knives. I hope that the unknown character that bought my knife off Bladegallery is happy with it. I attended Blade West and it was a great show. We are planning on attending Blade next June so hope to see you both there. Look forward to seeing you at Eds someday too.
Butch

I haven't been to Ed's but I taught at Warren Osbornes school last weekend and we had a blast. While I taught I still learned a lot and we put our knives to te extreme test.
Reggie

Hey Butch, glad to hear you're still at it. I enjoyed your knives at the Blade show and will see you again at the next one.

David, I don't know what you're talking about, but the next time we hook up I'm going to start some trouble by kicking your arse and taking your knives! Nah, I'm just kidding buddy...maybe :D BTW, can you remind me if you ever settled that bet we made during the cutting competition, when I picked Reggie to repeat his championship victory? :p

Reggie, sounds like you had a great time. Having watched you compete I know all the folks there must have had a great time watching you test those knives too!

David, yep, you know me too well. If memory serves we bet 1 dollar but since we didn't shake hands it wasn't official. Mentioned it more to let Reg know I was pulling for him and not to make you pay up. Although my mortgage is coming up so...:p

David, I'm glad you like that knife. It was probably one of my favorite ones and a real sweetheart. I have some more small blades in tempering and about ready to start finish grinding on them. I'll send you some pics when I get them done to see if either of them interests you.
I did meet Jose at Blade and had dinner with him one night. You're right he's a pretty wild one and almost gets out of control at times..:D
Actually we had to keep checking to see if he was still breathing because he was so quiet. :D
We do look forward to seeing you both in Atlanta.

Jose, It was great meeting you and glad you liked my knives. We look forward to seeing you at Blade in June. Go ahead and get that dollar David owes you so you can start saving to buy one of my knives. :p

You both take care and Happy Holidays to you, Butch

LOL, Butch. Yeah, we had a good time. Hard to beat home cooked southern BBQ and brew. Looking forward to next year!
