How many of you send your blades out to be tempered? Looking for places to send a future blade.
Thanks

Where to? I have a large 01 blade....I hope..........

The person(Paul Bos) I would send mine to, does not do anything but air hardening steels anymore.
You might try calling Texas Knifemakers Supply. They do heat treating.
And possibly someone else here has more info.

However, if you would like to learn to heat treat O1 is the steel to start with.

How large is the piece?

its about 13" x 2" x 3/16"

Pretty large for a first blade huh?

I don't think so. The more you challenge yourself the more your character prevails.

What hardness between 58 and 60 do you prefer? Or what's the knife to be used for?

I wanted an overall camp type knife. So Its a little thick for chopping. I have head that you quench the blade about half way. Let cool. USe an oven @ 400 degrees and bake for about an hr. Let cool. Then repeat 2 more times. Is this correct or do I need to get more specific?
