I just received a Northwoods large stockman in tortoise shell acrylic from Knives Ship Free, and unfortunately the scales have lifted completely off of one pivot end, and one scale crime the other pivot end. I just called KSF, and they were great in dealing with. My options are send to Queen for repair, refund or store credit. All fair options, and as I'm not too sure what I think of the scales (not usually a fan of non-chatoyant or plastics) I will probably go with the store credit but I did want to give the knife and scale choice a fair trial. Also mine was the last of that model, so I can't do an exchange.
My question to help me decide is
Has anybody recently had experience with Queen repairs? Especially older models that were made before the ?Daniels? Family took it over? I would like to give them a chance to show me their customer service, but being in Canada I also don't want a lot of cross border issues either. I'm not at all worried that KSF take care of me either- I guess its customer service surety vs keeping the exact knife I bought.
Here is one shot of the scale issue that I took- the pins do not hold the scale on at all, and can be seen through the gap!! I was really shocked as none of my natural handled knives have had this problem new, and I thought the acrylic would be much more stable in that regard!
Sorry for the long winded post, any input is appreciated.
