Senior Project

i don use the belt for much of anything other then hold my pants up but i know there are tons of use if you think about it unweaving it for cord sharping the buckle for a knife just a few hitman thanks for the prayers and kyp thanks for the advice maybe we will run into each other also i plan on doing them like Ray Mears videos except i will have more stuff with me and i will add some stuff

So you do wear it. That's what I wanted to know. I know this sounds gay, but I do have a reason for asking. Do you have a firesteel? If so, which one, scout, army, other?

From the thread title, I thought it was a project for us old farts. :D i forgot what it was like to be 17.

I'm in GA too, about 45 minutes north of Columbus. I live back in the woods, so I have lots of opportunity to practice stuff, though I'm pretty low on experience still. I was actually thinking about a similar trip soon, heading back onto my neighbor's property and roughing it for a few nights with only the bare essentials. Minus the video camera, of course. And LittleHairyApe, the cottonmouths (we call 'em water moccasins for the most part down here) don't bother you unless you bother them, same as most snakes. I sat and watched one for about ten minutes the other day, in fact. He was coiled up on the creek bank enjoying the quiet, same as me. It's the copperheads you have to watch out for. Those rascals are territorial as all get out. There aren't as many of them around, fortunately.

Thanks Kyp. I checked your advice, and I found it to be both practical and scientifically accurate. Much appreciated. :D

Sure thing. :D Just remember, they're usually more afraid of you than you are of them. Thus, there's no reason to fear 'em. Which makes the saying even more true. :p

Zach, definitely get a good ferro rod. The Light My Fire ones are good, but cheaper ones can be found if you look around. I never did like those mag bars; the purported advantage isn't worth the extra bulk and smaller striking surface IMHO.

well its 50 percent of my grade so i am postive i will be doing this

If you're sure that it's what you're going to do and you promise to show us the video, I'll send you a More 2000 with a kydex sheath and firesteel loop to take out there with you. It was one of the first ones I made. I wear a bigger belt now than the mil-spec canvas belts I used to wear so it doesn't fit. It's made specifically for horizontal carry on the canvas belt. This is it.

So it's up to you. You want it? If not, I won't be offended.

Dang Zack, those are some pretty nice offers!

Good luck with the project, I'm looking forward to seeing the video and pics!!!

Sounds like a good project you're about to start on. Might I suggest that you perhaps identify key survival skills such as shelter, fire, water and food. You then look at a few methods of each and film how you got on with each one.

You'll probably find out quite quickly which skills work best for you and require the least effort. Once you have these key skills then it doesn't matter if it's 4 days or 4 weeks you're in the field for, you can survive and with a few more skills thrive out there.

Remember to take pics of what doesn't work or is hard to do as well as what works well and is easier. It all adds to the depth of your experience out there.

Good luck and enjoy it. Everyday in the woods is a gift (even when it is raining and cold, lol)
