Sent my Sebenza in for a washer and...

I would agree with everyone that says to call..Clearly, something needs to be straightend out.

Might be a good idea to put the blue painters tape on the blade, over the business side with "DO NOT SHARPEN" written on one side of the tape with a sharpie. Then on the other side, "I'M SERIOUS, do NOT sharpen!"

Some of the issue may well be that the notes that are passed to the office do not necessarily make it out to the shop floor. Something like tape over the blade with a note could help to alleviate this problem.

I thought about it and OP DID say sharpen if needed. Putting it in the spa pile was prbably good intentions. Still wasn't handled 100% correct though.

OP did you call them yet? What did they say?

Understand your disappointment. You can always have Big Chris regrind your blade to whatever thickness you desire.

It's not petty nor does it make you sound materialistic to be upset about this, at least I don't think so. I would be if I was you and was when it happened to my UG Large Damascus Regular.

I spoke to Chris for 1/2 hour on the phone but even the man himself can't put steel back on, nor can he even a horrible bevel without removing more.

Crk is still and will remain my most favorite knife company, but, my knives will need SERIOUS REPAIR before I send another one in; good thing I like the users with character marks and I'll be keeping the collector pieces PRISTINE!

Good idea. I would also spell out very clearly in the note what you want done and what you do want done and not leave anything up to their discretion. Still no guarantee, but at that point you have done about all you can. I imagine on some days you may be getting the temp worker(to that job), if someone is out.

It think in your case you should let them know your concern and we all know they will make you happy.
I love the warranty department and I think they are a step above all others.

+1

I've had nothing but positive results from the CRK staff. Always very professional and courteous.

If you know what angle or exactly how acute you like your knives, then you're taking a huge risk giving the manufacturer the option to sharpen your knives. If you're good at sharpening in the least, it's a long shot that the manufacturer is going to put on a better edge than what you can do. And wouldn't the best person to know if the knife needs sharpening be you?

If you initially reprofiled to a more acute angle then it makes sense that they are going to remove more metal to make it look like their factory edge. Perhaps if you'd specified "try and match my angle" and it came back thick, dull, and obtuse then you'd have a gripe. I personally wish they'd not do the convex edge thing as in my experience they're obtuse and dull.

has CRK been contacted yet? Id like to know what the outcome was.
I personally just received my large 21 carbon fiber back from warranty/spa work and it is pristine, perfect edge, new screws. Looks 100% new and with a better edge than i sent it out with (It was very even and polished to whittle hair).
Please call crk if you have not done so already. Good luck OP. they will male it right im sure.

I'm up north all weekend and probably won't call until next week. I already repeofiled the knife and am happy with the edge now. I just wish I didn't have to do that after parting for an unexpected spa treatment and thickening the edge with two reprofilings in one week...

I want hoping for any special edge: just the factory edge that had come everyone of my Sebenzas. I've owned 6 and the edges have always been consistent and more acute than my standard sharpening angle.

As always, give CRK a chance to reply before voicing it on the forums. Its about the ONLY thing they ask of us and we should be more than happy to grant them that. You DID say, "sharpen of needed"?!?!?!?. EVERYBODYS version of "Sharp" is different.

That gave me a good laugh, thanks.
If only I would've had the wit to mention that while on the phone with him😎
As it is we left it with him telling me" it is what it is Mate ".

Nobody is perfect, right? Not even the mighty CRK. Maybe Chris knew that I had more than a dozen of his knives other than that one that needed more attention so he figured that he'd hobble that one a bit for its vanity 😁

I'm very picky, especially about things I spend a lot of money on. CRK has always been the best bet for the most perfect knife one can buy. Some may call it a first world problem to obsess over details that are more or less insignificant, it is aftersll, just a knife; but the first world is where I live( so they tell me ) so I still don't blame you for being bothered by the bevel being off.

It's very disappointing to hear that they sent you back a knife with an inconsistent edge bevel. That they didn't follow your instructions, and did things with the knife you did not request is disappointing but to be expected. A bad edge crosses over into unacceptable territory...

Question: Did you ask if they'd send you washers and screws before sending the knife to them? I'm not saying you should have just asked for new washers instead of sending your knife in, that's your prerogative. Just curious as to whether they would have or not.

I had a similiar washer problem a few months ago. I called and did ask for the washers. They explained that they preferred to do the work themselves and asked that I send the 25 in. I did, and had no problems......

The fact of the matter is that Chris isn't doing the sharpening and the process isn't automated to put the final edge on. Both fortunately and unfortunately, real people do this and are subject to the same flaws everyone here has; Humanity and imperfection are a relationship that we are all guilty of..

I don't mind spending the extra money over brand X for a CRK but I sure don't want to know what I'd have to spend on them if Chris were doing the sharpening 😳

Bill, what do you mean humanity isn't perfect, I know I'm perfect- perfectly imperfect 😉

Have a great Easter Sir.
