Today I had to visit the hospital emergency room at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. It was a long walk from where I had to park to the ER entrance. And as I walked in I saw the metal detector! Oh Crap! Do I walk back to my car and put my Sm Seb in the glove compartment? Or do I check it with the guard. I decided to check it rather than do all that walking. Worried about my knife the whole time I was there. But good news . . . my knife was safe and sound when I went to claim it!!! Sweet!
That is one of the worst feelings. I visited the Sears Tower in Chicago last year with family. I had my Large 21 Micarta Insingo on me. Didn't know about the metal detectors if you want to go up to the observation area at the top. I had that same horrible sinking feeling. We took the train that day, so no returning it to my car. I had no choice but to check it with security there. The whole time we were there, I felt naked without my Seb and agonized over whether I would get it back.
We were there for a couple hours. When it was time to go, I went to the security checkpoint to retreive it. They didn't have it. I thought, "Oh, *bleep*!" They called around on their radios. Turns out the supervisor had it and I was to meet him by the front doors. I thought, Oh, *bleep*!" again, what now? When I met him, he told me when he saw it, he didn't know what it was, but it looked expensive and well-made so he decided to hold onto it untill I came for it, just to make sure I got it back safe. I thanked him profusely for his kindness and thoughtfulness. What an experience.
