Sequel M390 Timeline

IMHO, this is the best EDC modern knife I have come across. Personally I would prefer this in CPM-M4 and no serrations, but its not leaving my pocket as it from my old man.

My dad would on the other hand prefer the M390 since he is a stainless fan. With the choice of both serrated and plain edge in his possession he is carrying the plain edge again.

I have used mine every day and its not bad at all with partial serrations, just not what I am used to.

I love CPM-M4 myself. But BM always coat their M4 blades, whereas I prefer bare steel. =) I would pick this one up but I have a Spyderco air on the way. I will reconsider all the options when I have the air in hand, maybe after some EDC days.

Yeah, the coated blades are a bummer, but I consider it worth it. Now 707 like this with stonewashed cpm-m4 plain edge. Oh man, I would never look at knives again...

You have a great Dad ............. the 707 is a alternate to the old 705 (which I prefer) but they stopped making them.
Either way I have a couple of these and think there great too.

Hmm, 705 I will have to look into them.

I really lucked into finding this. When I went to buy my dad his I knew he like the axis lock best of all the types I have shown him and I know he doesn't like caring for non stainless. So I searched m390 benchmade and this looked best! Man I wish I had the cash then to get a plain edge.

Just looked up the 705. I hate sharpening recurves or else that's also a great looking one imho. Thanks for the info!

Just a point of clarification. This is 705.

Did you see Benchmade site? They list 705SBK in front of 710 (which has reserves)

I work in a trade that I am no longer doing the labor, but when I am out on site I still have to use my knife from time to time.

Today called for cutting through old VCT and ardex to find wiring routes, taking up old vct to see what is below. First hard use for this one.

^ Cool, I don't actually like stand offs though. I would think I could take the spacer to my beltgrinder and thin it down enough to clear? Or would I grind into the screw hole?

My 707 hits the back spacer as well. I called Benchmade and they said it was because not enough material was removed from the blade during sharpening and I could send it in and they would remove more to fix it. No thanks! Annoying this happens on a knife this price but being that the spacer is plastic it works its self out in short time... I haven't had any problems with it dulling the blade or keeping it sharp. You could also just take the spacer out and sand it down some as well.

The 707 blade shape lays the smack down on the previous 705 blade. Big improvement IMO.

Good point and I will be sharpening to get all the chips out. I hadn't noticed the backspacer dulling the edge at all.

I can't say, it could go either way.
In some knives there isn't a lot of clearance there; on some other knives there is more.
With me, I have always been replacing the factory back spacer with one of my own or standoffs.
I've never really tried to make it work with the original.

I will try to make mine work with the original. I like this knife just as is. My CPM-M4 LE Grip has standoffs and I don't really care for them. I like the looks, I just don't like the function. My sebenza's also do. What I found is standoffs allow change or anything else to sneak in and dull the edge. Thank you for helping. I had this problem with opinels and I ended up making stag wedges and bonding them to the collar to give the blade a stop. I like tinkering so I appreciate your help.
