Serate an unserated knife

It's not practical, the only sharpeners designed for serrations that I have seen are WAY too fine for putting serrations into a straight edge. I imagine someone with some a few round files and some serious skill COULD, but you may find that most are done in a production type environment and the serrations are put on WITH or before the edge is ground in.

Chances are you'd end up with a big mess. just sharpen with a low grit stone and it should slice through stuff better than a high polish would.

And if your job needs serrations, just go get a full SE Spyderco.

its possible but a lot of work and the right equipment. its best to leave the blade alone and buy one with serrations.

There's no practical way I know of. My grandfather worked with knives and knew how to work with blades, and he always used hand tools so as to not ruin the heat treat. I spend more time wishing I didn't have serrations on my blades, but I'd say your best bet was to get a knife with serrations if you want them. Putting "teeth" into a modern blade would be next to impossible.

I had a customer begging me to try and i do them all the time now.Not the prettiest, but they really rip and seem to hold up well.

IIRC some one used to add serrations to plain edges, dont remember who now, do remember they charged by the inch and did a good job of it, try a search.

the only reason i rememebr anything about it was i couldnt fathom why anyone would wanna do that unless they cut a LOT of rope lol.

888knivesrus says they can add serrations to a PE. I've bought a couple knives from them, they're good people.

what kind of knife do you want serrations on? i can talk to my friend with a mill. its possible we can do it using diamond or carbide cutters if you cant find a knife you like with serrations to fit your need.

i believe its better to buy a serrated blade knife, like one spyderco ...you choose..
the serrations are well thought for cutting, not just eye candy, or random teeth

The best serrations have a chisel grind. One side is flat and the serrations are on the other side. I don't like serrated edges though.
