i have recently acquired a used sere 2k
it's in great condition, but have a few concerns

the tang has a 'dent' or 'chip' in it.
i emailed al mar knives, and they said that this is normal, and it is 'mating', just wondering if your sere has the same.

the lock up also seems to vary in position, sometimes it locks up in the middle of the tang, and sometimes it locks up all the way to the right. is this normal or is this a sign of future failure?

the knife seems to lock up solid right now, but i would just like some reassurance that this is normal

thanks
jonathan

No, this is not normal. (lock-up position) Mine has always locked up on the left, with plenty of wear to go.

However, if the knife is used, perhaps it was very well used, and for a period of time.

It sounds like it has experienced a fair amount of wear. If, however, you got it for a good price and the lockup is solid, I'd just use it and forget it.

this is just a rant, and a warning to others sending their knife to Al Mar for sevice

i emailed al mar and descibed my problem. we exchanged about 3 emails which resulted in him recomending me to send the knife in. i sent the knife in, and it has now been about a month. i have sent about 4 emails asking about status, asking if they recieved the knife (which i know they did due to delivery confirmation), and no replies. this is not what i was expecting from al mar knives, and is comepletely opposite of the great service i recieved from benchmade a couple months ago.

has anyone been in this situation before?
how long does it usually take (took benchmade 2 weeks including shipping)?
what should i do now?

thanks for any replies in advance,
Jonathan

I have some experience with Al Mar customer service and I recommend that you call and speak with the owner of the company (Gary I think). I found that they were a bit scatterbrained, but he WAY more than made up for the inconvenience to me. Thet are a small mom and pop operation but are very good, honest people. Give them a call and explain your situation and I have a feeling they'll make it right quickly.

do you think you can provide me gary's number? their website seems to be down.

thanks for the reply
