Serious Survival Challenge for Myself

Md25d,
I caught your thread and following with interest. Environment is an important aspect to me and I'm keen to visualise the terrain of where you are headed. I searched the name Appellation Range without any success. What part of this Earth do you intend on going?

I think the OP meant Appalachian...I could be wrong.

This has all the ingredients needed for awesome. Look forward to hearing from you afterwards, hopefully you report back with plenty of pics and vids:thumbup:

Thanks dougo, md25v could you please verify the area. I'm looking forward to following this adventure ... Very inspiring :)

I would recommend bringing additional gear in a separate bag, but don't use the gear until you reach a point where you may be in danger; you can use the gear in a emergency rather than ending your trip.

Maybe you've covered this, but consider a gallon freezer bag to disinfect "found water" while consuming the good water you have in your pack, to avoid contaminating the good stuff.

Best wishes.

Sounds like you have got it very well planned out. I might add some rice to use just in case you have some type of emergency and are unable to catch/ gather any food. But other than that I love the bare bones approach to this trek.

Be safe and take lots of pics.

love that cz452, i have a lux that i will never sell... tell me do those sight drop over the front sight, and what is the make of the sights...?

The front sight slides into the groove that the stock sight's hood sits in. The sights are available by PM'ing BRNOMAN over at rimfirecentral.com
He makes them

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to say exactly where I'll be heading. I've had great support from people that are willing to let me bend a few rules in order to do this and I don't want to chance getting anyone in trouble, sorry for the inconvenience.

A well stocked PSK is always in my day pack. So barring things I cannot easily plan for I will be covered for emergencies.

thanks for the advice but that as been covered, I have a 0.5 liter titanium cup attached to the outside of my pack. I can make a small fire next to a stream and keep puifying water untill I fill my hydration bag whenever I need to.

I considered taking more than two powerbars but I know that realistically I have been without food for a few days in the bush before and other than being really tired and having nasty stomach cramps its just an increase in "suck factor". I have a layer of body fat to burn if I need to. When I was in the Army this type of thing was routine during training.
I also keep glucose tabs in my PSK.

Have a good trip. I did the exact same thing except that mine was not planned. I was hunting in the Black Hills in Dec and slipped off a ledge, fell about 20 feet and sprained my ankle, broke my rifle and in the ordeal, got lost and spent the night in 0 degree weather. On the lucky side, I was still smoking at that time and had my Zippo lighter and I had my old Swedish 6 inch blade hunting knife.

I also have a CZ .22 that I love. Your sights look more suited to target than hunting to me, but I'm not that experienced. Do you think they're sturdy enough and quick enough to acquire? - especially that nice tiny peep in the rear.

Be safe and have fun!

The sight on your rifle looks really vulnerable. It sits high and looks like it could get bumped or snapped off easily. Why not try a Williams receiver sight.

Yeah, my first thought is that target peep sights on a survival gun is probably not a good idea. They let way too little light through and, just my opinion, they become very difficult to use in dawn and dusk conditions. Open sights would be my preference. And they are also perfect for catching on this and that and getting beat up pretty good in the woods. Again, just my thought.

Md25v,
Its OK I wasn't after your exact destination, just an idea of the sort of terrain. I don't even know what country your in. Anyway I hope you have a great time.

I'm very envious. I need some woods time myself. Have fun and be safe. I look forward to the pics. Good luck
