Seriously... What does it take to get a brute!

Cool. If I were gonna make one, I would make it bigger than the original. The original is barely longer than the 9.

Ok, if you were gonna make one longer, what kind of length would be required?
Once I get my back ordered round-tuit, I have a steel blank suitable for a blade project.

Personally, while it would make it STUPID heavy, I'd go with about the length of the 6. Maybe a hair shorter.

Funny, this is one that I just don't have too much interest in. Not even sure why, really. It is kinda a neat looking blade.

i have one of the originals, back in CinCinn days. that ones is nice.

the ones after that? the epoxy? pass

the camillus? no soul. also, it's a laff to call it #1, when there were several Becker models before it (machax, campanions, etc)

but if you got say, $4000, i'll find a brute for you :D

He ain't heavy...

To me, the design seems lent to batoning. I might opt for a full flat grind if that were the case though. So, the grind leaves me wondering. Heavy tools are almost always made for H.D. uses. It is certainly enigmatic, the brute.

That is how I see it, being new to Beckers, though not to tools.

I will snap some pics and post later, one side is almost done. Thought about going full flat but will keep it a high saber and front swedge, not doing the other one at the spine. Lengthwise I think it is a hair shorter than the original due to this being a late idea with what was left of a bar of 1084.

Those are cool!

Thanks, and yes, here she is:

I like that one as a starting point.

This blank is an old 5/16" thick leaf spring, 2.5" x 32". Leaf spring blanks are plentiful. Once I figured out how to make them flat, the rest became possible. I had planned to attempt some type of sword, but I have more leaves. In fact, I have a shorter one from the same pack. I'll have to go and find that piece.

well, scratch the high saber, it's gonna be a full flat. Had some trouble keeping the grind straight on the right face so decided to go all the way to the top. Now it needs holes, and it will be refined by hand and scaled when it gets back from ht. If everything goes right and it comes back in reasonable time, I might be able to take it to Ethan's gathering.

left face was going ok

and so was the right face, too, until I started to push it up

at this point I said "f*ck it let's go full flat"

Nice! Mine came in the mail today....now I am afraid to use it since it literally is unused "NIB"...I don't really have any safe queens, so it's hard to think about beating on this piece of Becker history while the coating is pristine and the sheath not even broken in. Now I wish I'd found a used one.

I will trade you. Of course I will beat on it since you paid what a nice used one costs anyways. Enjoy it put it to use you wont lose any money.

I truly am sorry, friend. I seconded that thinking you'd already made it a done deal with the seller. If it makes you feel any better (though I doubt it will) it goes into the sheath really hard, and comes out with even more difficulty. I think it has been sitting too long and warped a little. It came in a BK-10 box, and it's heavy. You will be the first person I contact should I decide to sell it. But you'll find one. Keep up the faith. In the meantime, you've LOTS of other Beckers to play with and love.
I should be checking out dresnor's Patrol Machete next weekend. But I don't think I'll be trying to find one of those.....at least until the sucking void in my bank account subsides.

Bring it to the cabin, I'll break it in for you!

I did see a unused Patrol Machete on another forum for a fair price.
