Seriously - what is the meaning of it all (life)?

"You have to think of yourself as your own planet. That's the most important part. You have to realize that your life is entirely separated from everybody elses. Comparing yourself to others is entirely pointless.

Your life will only happen once, no matter what you believe in. It's going to end some day. Even if you believe in the "after life": this life will still only happen once.

You've got two choices: enjoying yourself or not.

One ticket, one ride. Doesn't matter what you do. The only thing that matters, the only possible point to life, is to enjoy yourself.

Then you have to ask yourself, what is it that you enjoy? Then you do it. Life is way too short, no matter how long it is, for you to do things you don't like."

I can't speak for anyone else, but the times i feel that there is meaning in life, is when i make something with my hands. I whittle something outta wood, carve something outta bone, mold something with clay or beeswax, paint something, draw something, listen to certain pieces of music... It's within this that i find my meaning of life.
And i realize i've enjoyed time in this respect, when i stand up, and my body is all krinked and knotted from having been in the same position for a length of time. This feeling is usually followed by a sort of rushing sound, when all the woodchips fall from my person and to the floor, and i get a feeling of at-ease-ness.

I think everyone has their own sort of "zone" that they can go into, to find a meaning to their own existence, be it music, talking a walk in the woods or staring into a fire.

I guess you just need to find your own "zone".

That's my two cents atleast.

Revelation 4:11b - for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Like fish out of water, we'll never be happy until we find ourselves living for Him.

My 2 pennies.

Are you kidding? You want to bring religion into the meaning of life? So, we could spend one day a week to praise god on his day off? And then we can donate money to the church that worships this unseeable creature? If you know for a fact the feeling is mutual, I'm going to have to say this imaginary friend of yours is nothing but a fake figment.

Even a 5 year old learns something is completely wrong about giving money, praying and wasting time to an invisible figure. What's so hard to ignore the obvious written stories? Do you also belive all stories written 2000 years ago?

PLEASE, religion does not exist in forums. pray to your god and ask for peace and happiness, but in the end, only you are the one who controls them. You won't escape the tsunami by praying for help, it's nothing but a stupid dream

Please read the original posts last line and if you have nothing good to say, don't say it.

The death, burial, and resurrection of Christ provides all that life can mean to me. It is far more than just "religion".

Exactly. Keep it to yourself. My post does not reply to the OP's post. Thank you.

Edit: I apologize. The guy about the religion got me fired up. I apologize to your Porcupine

Hey bub, the question was what does all this mean?

If living for God is that person's answer it's a legit one.

At least he's living for something bigger than himself.

Back on track yall.

Nothing has me down - everything has me wondering.

I love the responses so far - keep them coming - even (especially?) the religious ones. I really liked the simple answer (it is here for us).

Hey TF, I know I don't have the answer, but I may be able to help you find it (even just a little):D

Ask your kids;)

This thread should not have been started in this forum. W&SS is about just that...wilderness and survival skills. W&SS skills is not a catch-all forum to post whatever you wish. This topic is more suited for Community. It has absolutely nothing to do with the wilderness or survival skills.

Perhaps you have chosen you path unwisley.
For me the meaning of life is to choose a wise path and reach the end of it smiling and knowing you have done good along the way. The occasional naysayer was put there to show you choose correctly.

In my opinion it's all about enjoying the simple things.
Getting out into nature costs nothing ( unless ya count all ther knives we buy to take with us !) and yet provides an endless amount of pleasure as we discover the wonder of it all.
Get out in woods and stop looking for answers, you will then soon find them ;-)

Ya know... sometimes I get a little introspective and wonder about the "meaning of life" etc. Finding no answer in my head, I watch my kids and my dogs playing out in the yard or out in the woods (the BIG backyard) and I see it. Life isn't (for me) about the big picture, it's about each moment, good and bad, and how we respond to them. Kids don't think about tomorrow, they think about having fun today. If it's fun (and not TOO illegal...) try it. If it tastes good, eat it. I watch people everyday worn down by worrying about what's gonna happen tomorrow or next year. Slow down. Take time to smell the flowers. My 95 year old Grampa tells me everytime we talk that life is about the moments that make up the years. Life is fun.

I don't think I have ever asked myself about the meaning of life. IMO, some things are really a waste of time, and that would be one of them.

My goals in life are simple; do right by everyone I meet - do my best at everything worth doing - try to laugh with loved ones every single day.

It is also helpful to remember that before us have lived an uncountable number of human beings, each of whom have had a similar life to yours in many ways, and each of whom have contributed in small or large part to what you enjoy in your every day.

I like to spend some time remembering them, to the extent possible.

Andy

does anyone truly know the answer? hard to say really. to me there are 2 perspectives, there is a biological one which says to pass you genes to the next generation, then there is the religious one, which says you live to serve the Almighty, but i agree with other posters that it is truly subjective from one person to the next.

I am left wondering though - now what? I am 36 (that may be part of the reason for the contemplation) and I wonder what I do from now on? What is the meaning of all of this.

TF

In my view, there is NO meaning at all to life, other than remaining not dead. None.
While some may find this depressing(I sure used to), I now find it nicely liberating. It allows me to create my own meaning for life.:)

The meaning of life is the life its self. The experiences we have and what we learn.
It's a learning experience and we take it back to the source to continue life.
At least that's the most satisfactory explanation I've found.
The Earth Life system is a set of tools and we learn to use them. We learn measurement. It's a polarized environment where comparatives are possible. We learn what are strong and weak, hot or cold, hungry or full, fast and slow, male or female, friend or foe, sad or glad, love or hate- it goes on.
With our human mind we learn to create in ways we wouldn't without being human. This provides avenues of expression beyond description.
We learn appreciation of beauty. We find it in an ocean, a sunset, trees, flowers, music - the list is endless. Mostly we find it in what others think and do. Their and our emotions. We learn to laugh and have fun.
So that's what I believe, we are here for the life its self. Live it and enjoy it and don't try to figure it all out so hard.
