Seriously what is up with MT!

I'd rather we get back to talking about Kershaw / ZT products.

ok, I'll start ... please do another run of ZT 0777, Kershaw Tilt, Kershaw Speedform, and Kershaw Breakout auto. I'll buy one each of the first 3 I listed, and one of all 10 variants of the Breakout. ;)

There's a very interesting backstory about the 0777 and Matrix, and a couple of other knives before that. I know the details but will not be posting them on the internet. It'd be best to just chalk it up to knife industry drama, grudges, etc etc. Bottom line is that you probably should not blame either company. They're both great companies and I'll continue to do business with both.

So we shouldn't blame either company because of mystery details you won't tell us. Forgive me if I look askance upon your opinion.

Let's add Boker to the list too:

That company copies just about everything that someone else makes. It's a shame the lack of creativity they have displayed over the last couple years.
Didn't mean to instigate or provoke anything, just was a little surprised MT did it again ......thought I'd let the Kershaw community know about it.

There are people around that know these things much quicker than we do, believe me. This thread didn't put a flag anywhere.

Thats the main reason I haven't bought any new microtech knives. I only have an ultratech from 2002. But I have a box full of Kershaws!! I also have 4 on pre order :P

We need to start a petition for this- I am not kidding!

The only thing more pathetic than MT ripping off KAI is reading all the idiotic YouTube comments justifying it.
The level of stupidity in some of their arguments is unbelievable.

I pretty much avoid reading Youtube comments when possible. All the armchair commandos, trolls, and fanboys come out of the woodwork.

On a side note, I think Kershaw/ZT could benefit by collaborating with the knifemakers that Microtech used to work with. Since discontinued MT models like the Lightfoot LCC and Terzuola ATCF still have quite a following, and knowing Kershaw/ZT's success at catering to the high end production crowd, I think such a venture would be pretty successful. It'd also be interesting to see how Walter Brend would collaborate with ZT.

I'd get a ZT LCC or ZT ATCF in a heartbeat.

and what would a meaningless petition actually accomplish?

You got to start somewhere to make things work. Kershaw were not motivated to even complete the 0777 after the Matrix got released and despite that look what happened. They sold out in minutes, although most bought one to make a quick buck, but still the demand is pretty high.

If the KAI community show enough enthusiasm or support Kershaw could have a change of mind you never know.

There's no excuse for Microtech and Boker, however... The 770 is a completely different knife from the 777, and I can't really think of it as a substitute for Kershaw releasing a production version of the 777. One is a linerlock, while the other is a framelock-style, then one is a smaller knife vs. the other being a much larger one. Lock mechanism and handle size are two among the most defining aspects of any folder's sense of personality, and while I think the 770 looks to be an excellent and beautiful knife on its own merits, it is, sadly enough, no production version replacement for the 777.

I agree, those knives kick ass!

As much as I hate to say this but I agree with everything you said. A mini 0777 would be awesome =D

The 0770 is a different beast in its own league.

Kershaw probably doesn't profit from the exotics like the tilt and the 777. It attracts attention, hence, sell more Skylines.
I doubt they'll do another run.

I don't see another 777 run ever happening. How about a version without the combo blade and carbon fiber but leave everything else the same. I know it will never happen, but one can wish.

He is probably talking about how ZT had issued an OTF prototype at either shot or blade, cant remember which. It never even made it to production. Tony took offense which was his motivation for the Matrix. The thing people seem to forget is that the ZT otf did NOT in any way shape or form infringe on Tonys intellectual property. Mr. Marfione apparently feels that the modern OTF knife is his stomping grounds of which no one else is allowed a foothold. What tony wont tell you is that the basis for ALL of his dual action OTF knives were lifted from technologies that have been around since the 50s and 60s. The only thing Tony did was make a more robust execution of designs that have existed for many years. Tony has always and IMHO will always continue to lift ideas whenever and wherever he can. Anyone who disagrees should look at not only the Matrix and mini matrix but also the whaleshark and oss cobra. Not to mention that nearly 75-85 percent of all past microtech models were designed by other knife makers such as, Reese Weiland, Walter Brend, Gregg Lightfoot, Butch Vallotton, Chris reeve, and many other lesser known makers and designers. And of those mentioned there IS a reason 80% of them wont even talk about microtech or its owner. Love the knives if you want to. Hell I used to have many Microtechs. They can make great knives when they want to. But if you even let a hint of your moral compass influence what you buy in knives then Microtech is off the table.
