Seriously, Where's the Maxamet?

I haven’t messed with anything higher that S110v. Is Maxamet next level? Or different playing field all together?

The villagers are getting restless...

I don't like to hype stuff but yeah, a production knife at 67rc tempered with that much carbide volume it behaves very different from s110v. With that high hardness you can put a smoking hot, crispy crispy polished edge on that baby and it deburrs, like a champion. With the strength of the steel due to the high hardness and volume, it holds it's shape at the apex longer then a lot of other steels, yet it still has the carbide volume to cut aggressively and with endurance using toothy edges. There nothing like it except Rex121

Shawn, seriously brother, you could be the next "Vince from ShamWow". We'll just change the product name to ShawnWow. :p

(Just a little fun. Keep up the good work and the research.)

The last I heard they were having some issues working the stuff. With that carbide content you know it has to be hell on tooling.

Fully serrated with the stuff would almost guarantee no sharpening for most of us knucklheads

From my experience with it over the last year, I don't think it would do well in a serrated blade. I suspect the blade would be missing teeth in short order.

Let's see...hmmmm, got one in my pocket, got another one over there, and ummmm, yup, one over on the dresser too. All present and accounted for!!!

It's only my opinion, but I think most folks feel like there are already at least a few very good available steels from Spyderco. As such, there doesn't seem to be as much push for Maxamet from customers and subsequently, probably not much interest from Spyderco in trying to solve the difficulties of using it. Between tariffs, multi-model production schedules, changing laws (Canada), and probably a hundred other things I haven't thought about, Maxamet is probably pretty far down on the to-do list.

Would like a PM2 user though.

You had me at smoking hot, crispy crispy polished edge!

Thanks for the reply. As of today I’m hooked on CPM-M4, and only dabbled with S110v. Maxamet looks like good stuff...I will pick one up and give it a go.

Oh and thanks for the great videos on YT!

I love my manix2 in maxamet. It is that fingerprint scraping, screaming sharp that just doesn't seem to fade. It's pretty nuts!
