Serrated or Plain Edge, That is the Question.

It's easy to cleanly push cut will a fully serrated knife if it's been properly sharpened.

Serrations are advantageous in two instances I can see:

1) cutting a lot of rope or other fibrous stuff, especially if precision isn't that important. Nothing hacks its way through better than a good Spyderedge.

2) a purely defensive knife, especially a relatively short one, where slashing is an important tactic. Serrated edges have more edge contact area per unit of length than a plain edge.

That's how I see it. I've tried using fully serrated edges for general purpose uses and have found them to be a bit awkward for some things--but they're the best for sharpening pencils! :)
