Serrated or Smooth?

I am about to purchase a KA-BAR, traditional leather handle, leather sheath.
My question is serrated section, or smooth all the way.
The knife will be used in the field, rather than an ornament.
Thoughts anyone?

Part serrated is my vote, adds that extra utility. it could come in handy for this "knife will be used in the field"

Smooth, better known as plainedge.

Since we are talking for in the Field ~

If I needed to pull my knife out because I had to cut threw something fast and possibility have to Saw at it a Bit ! ~ I would be happy I chose the Knife that was Serrated

I agree with you ClickBoom ClickBoom , with the caveat that it would have to be a serration pattern that I like. The Kabar knives don't have that, hence my answer.

I generally appreciate serrations but tend to carry a fully serrated Cold Steel Super Edge on my keychain, so I always have a dedicated serrated knife for fibrous materials and a plain edge for everything else. So, that's my recommendation. Plain edge, small serrated back up knife.

Serration patterns I like have looks, performance, and ease of maintenance, the last two being mandatory for a field knife.

If I really had to rely on a kabar only and had the choice of partially serrated, I’m definitely taking it. They are ground correctly for me, right hand dominant, which is rare for serrations.

They will continue to cut when the rest of the knife is dull, and they aren’t difficult to sharpen with the corner of a harder abrasive. Once I watched how Sal of Spyderco sharpens them, it clicked with me that they are very easy as long as they don’t have huge peaks/valleys to skip off of.

Especially with a steel like 1095, the soft edge may flatten but those serrations will still chew through material.

serrated blade is good for flexible things like ropes or textures and more durable in using.they can still cut even when pretty damaged.
but i don’t think they can handle outdoor jobs since they are not strong enough compare to plain edge.

Plain edge. I like blades that I can sharpen easily, especially when their use will require it often enough, as seems to be the case here.

plain edge or smooth as you're calling it. the partial serrations on the kabar aren't great at anything.

I bet you watch a lot of the old show Dragnet ~ lol

Who me? Very well, then how much ya wanna owe me for the bet? 🤣

Also, what's this even supposed to mean?
