Serrated or straight blade

All my ESEE, where you have an option of serrated or plain, are plain except my most recent purchase of a 3-MIL in CP. I got the serrated edge on that along with the CP. I must say the ESEE serrations are impressive and easy to sharpen just at Mike Perrin said is his post. That beign said I love my 4 in plain and it is a great all around knife. I don't really think you would need serration on your 4 just a sharpener to keep it nice and sharp. Still like most things it is personal preference. Good luck with your selection.

Mjc7 - can you post a pic? Ive looks around online and didn't really get a good one. I would like to see what one of these look like in hand.

Thanks.

I agree with plain. I have a couple folders with partial serrations and I never use them. The idea of getting a serrated 5 and leaving it in my Jeep is appealing though, for seatbelts, recovery straps and rope, etc.

I only have a basic membership so I can't post pictures. Here is a link to T-K-C I have the 4 in DT with the Brown & Black G10 handles. This shows it:

Here it is in someone's hand, but it is a good picutre:

If that is not a good enough view let me know I will email you a pic.

Thanks, I was looking at TKC as well. How do you like it? I'm much more of a plain edge but this looks like it might work for an urban basic use task (boxes and other like tasks) plus, it looks cool...that counts right?

I have a plain 3 and love it, but was looking at other options as well. Thanks.

I like the plain edge 4 alot. Great balance and just an all around excellent knife. I love those handles too, very nice feel. Like all ESEEs it holds an edge well. Overall I prefer plain edge, but ESEE's serrations are superior to any others I have seen if you choose to go that way.

Eh. No real need, IMHO.
Sharpening will get you further than serrations. I feel they're a crutch.

I was going back and forth on this as well. And on the 5P also.
I opted for straight, and I know most of you prefer that setup AND have a lot more experience than I do.

I hope I don't regret i.
I like the serrations on my Spyderco Native S30V and my VIC Soldier'09
great for cutting rope and bread.

The only pe ESEE knives I have are my Izulas and my HESTs (and I'm considering adding them to a HEST myself). The 3MIL, my first RC-4, and the ESEE-4 i recently ordered all have serrations. I like the ESEE serrations, they never get in the way of "normal" use and they're there when I want them to be.
