Serrated vs Straight

I'm always in the minority on this, but I only carry combo-edge. There are few times whn I need to cut through rubber or plastic, but when I do I'm so grateful to have the serrations there, because a plain-edge is insufficient. And serrations excel at sharpening pencils, and trimming fingernails! I've never had the serrations interfere w/using the plain edge or vice-versa. But then I only use my EDCs (including a combo Delica) for city & home tasks, I'm not working on a ranch. As for sharpening the serrations, no problem with one of the many rods, sharpmakers, etc, that are available.

Buy both! You'll be ready for everything. I carry a small Sebenza and a Rescue Jr. everyday and I'm set!

I like plain edges as well. I have never had much luck in keeping serrated blades sharp after they get dull.

I work as a merchant marine and for me plain edge is a waste of time. My plain edge knives will shave easily and pass the paperpush test, but they are absolutely useless on two inch dia. nylon rope. So my edc is usually one of my fully serrated spydercos. What your going to have to cut on aregular basis should form your decision as both types of edge have there strong and weak points. Good luck,
Rick
