I'm planning a set of kitchen knives. On one of my practice knifes, I tried making a serrated edge. It didn't quite turn out the way I expected. I got the idea from a post of Stacy's on another thread. I didn't have a chainsaw file so I used a triangle file I bought yesterday. FWIW, the metal is steak-knife thin and is a Ti-Mg alloy. No, it will never hold an edge nor will it ever be finished. I'm trying to get the handle design perfected.

My question is, if I clamp a piece of metal about 1/4" up from the edge, then work with the file, would this prevent from going too far up the blade? Are there other jig designs to make a better serration?
