Serrations put on a knife?

I'll post this in the Knifemaker's section, as well. I'm not too versed in the posting practices of these particular forums.

I have a friend who I have recently introduced to higher quality blades. He was quick to search out and discover his likes, and wants, within his budget. He has settled on a SOG fixed blade with leather washers. He is very interested in getting some serrations put on the rear edge of the knife, and I'm not sure how to get that done.

I live in Kansas City, and I know there are a couple makers locally, most notably David Mosier, and Tim Herman. Now, Tim is out of our league, but David Mosier is problably closer, but I don't see any examples of serrations on his knives.

I thought I'd get some opinions on the subject before I contact him, just to see what you all think would be the feasability of having a custom maker add serrations to a production knife.

He's more interested in functionality, rather than looks, but he's not about to take a file to his blade, and ruin it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

You might want to disuade your friend from attempting something like this as the blade has already been hardened, and it is very tough to accurately file a blade when it's rockwell approaches 58. I'm not saying that it cannot be done, but I can absolutely guarantee that it will take some major efforts. Usually when metal is this hard then the file only skids along the top surface and doesnt cut very well.

bring it to a toolmaker. Guarantied a good Tool and Die guy can grind them in using various set ups and a precision surface grinder with a shaped wheel. I know I can. hardness makes no difference, as we frequently grind all types (O1, D2, A2, INCONEL, ETC) hardened tool steels to .0002 tolerances.
