Bit of a newb here, but here goes anyhoo....

A few weeks ago I got a Buck Strider Tarani in a trade with Phil! I really loved the design of the knife, but I just couldnt get along with the part serrated edge. The knife just screamed user, so I thought it would be a shame to relegate it to the drawer, so I decided I was going to sharpen the serrations right orf :O

This is the knife here...

On Friday night, after a few beers :D , I read the post about Martyn grinding the spine of his sebbie square so that it would strike a ferro rod, and that put me in the mood for modifications :] so I duly soaked my coarse waterstone and took the strider to it!

Progress was slow, what with the Paul Bos HT'd ATS-34 blade, but I stuck at it for 3/4 of an hour or so and got this far.

Tonight I decided that I needed to finish it, so I got stuck in again. Progress was slow again, but I persevered and eventually I rinsed it off and there was no sign of a serration left, so I set about setting the bevel and putting an edge on it.

I reckon I have taken about 3 or 4 mm off the blade to remove the serrations, but I dont think it has spoiled the lines of the knife too much. I dont think that just any PS blade would be suited to this amount of steel removal, but IMO, the very broad blade of the Tarani accepts it very well :)

Here is the finished result, what do you think, opinions welcome :D

It looks good, but I think you should try and find a way to remove those scratches

Hey, man, some people can deal with some scratches because they're extreme! and buy USERS, candy boy!:D

Well you take one hell of a pic ! Love the apple and shavings lol
I love the knife , kudos to you for taking off those nasty serrations. :)

Stuartyr, You did a wonderful job on that !:D It really looks great, just think how well it will cut now............I may send some of mine for you to do............:p

Robbie Roberson;)

Good job !
if one day you decide to remove the "sand-paper" aspect of the upper part of the blade, let us know (and post good pictures of it !)
I have same knife (but without the serration:D ) and i would love to change that part !:D

It only took you 45 min to get that far in the first pic? Wow. It's taken me more than that to reprofile an edge sometimes.

Wow that looks great! I'm Just thinking think how much faster it could go with a DMT. Maybe project time for me! Thanks for the pics and idea!:D

What are you using to reprofile? I was using a 250 grit Jap waterstone;)

Robbie, if you would like to send me a PS revolver, id be happy to remove the serrations, I just may be a little slow to send it back!:D

I use a Japanese combination waterstone from Lee Valley tools. 250 grit on one side and 1000 on the other. I use the 250 side first, after the bevel is put in I smooth it out on the 1000 side. Maybe I'm too gingerly with it or something...or I'm not understanding how you got to that point in the photo. Did you stroke the blade over the stone in a consistent manner like you were sharpening it, only at a very obtuse angle? Or did you put the blade edge down perpendicular to the stone and just wear away the thing and worried about getting the angle later?

Stuartyr, a SOG Revolver ?

Maybe......................................maybe not :p

I love my serrations and you still did a super nice job !:D

Robbie Roberson;)

I have nothing against serrations, in fact my very EDC was a SE untill recently, but I must say I like your knife better in PE. You made a great job there, congratulations and thanks for the pics.
