Bit of a newb here, but here goes anyhoo....
A few weeks ago I got a Buck Strider Tarani in a trade with Phil! I really loved the design of the knife, but I just couldnt get along with the part serrated edge. The knife just screamed user, so I thought it would be a shame to relegate it to the drawer, so I decided I was going to sharpen the serrations right orf :O
This is the knife here...
On Friday night, after a few beers
, I read the post about Martyn grinding the spine of his sebbie square so that it would strike a ferro rod, and that put me in the mood for modifications :] so I duly soaked my coarse waterstone and took the strider to it!
Progress was slow, what with the Paul Bos HT'd ATS-34 blade, but I stuck at it for 3/4 of an hour or so and got this far.
Tonight I decided that I needed to finish it, so I got stuck in again. Progress was slow again, but I persevered and eventually I rinsed it off and there was no sign of a serration left, so I set about setting the bevel and putting an edge on it.
I reckon I have taken about 3 or 4 mm off the blade to remove the serrations, but I dont think it has spoiled the lines of the knife too much. I dont think that just any PS blade would be suited to this amount of steel removal, but IMO, the very broad blade of the Tarani accepts it very well
Here is the finished result, what do you think, opinions welcome
