Serrations, Wot Serrations?

I removed the serrations from a full serrated blade for a friend a couple of weeks ago. I told him I could sharpen it, but the serrations would be gone and he said ok. It was a $5.00 gas station knife, but it came out razor sharp after 120 and 320 grit belts and the sharpmaker fine rods. I dont mind serrations, I prefer plain edge, and I detest knives that cant make up their mind (partially serrated). I'm not that familiar with the Buck/Strider line, but if you hadnt said anything, I wouldnt have been able to tell there were ever serrations on it from your pictures.

Has anyone made sort of a mini Tracker, by just grinding off the partial serrations and making a recessed, very thin single side bevel in that area? I've got an old knife I found and was considering it, but ended up using it for work, where it doesnt really matter.

I think you did an awesome job on the mods. I wish I would have tried that once or twice instead of selling a couple of good knives with serrations I felt weren't user friendly. I think the problem with a lot of partially serrated knives comes from the placement of the serrations on the blade. For utility purposes, I think they would be better placed a bit after the tip with the plain edge behind for fine work. The Grohman Boat Knife can be ordered that way and it works very well for marine applications. Sometimes I would like to add a couple of notches onto a plain edge to help with tougher cuts but don't know if it would work. Has anyone ever tried something like that?
