In general I don't like combo edges mainly because where they are usually located (close to the handle)
is where I want the most control and that requires a plain edge. Plus if you're knife is
razor sharp and you know how to sharpen it I really see little reason for serrations unless it's
very task specific, like cutting lots of rope.

Although I hate serrations, I agree that there is a sweet spot where serrations would be usable longer than a plain edge. The serrations would eventually dull, leaving you with trying to find something to sharpen a seriously dulled serrated edge with (a difficult job with the right tools). I have found many man made and natural items that you can sharpen a plain edge on in a pinch.

I would go with a plain edge fixed blade for all wood chopping/building needs, and a partially serrated folder for small tasks. I like the added utility of serrations. Serrations for seem to be able to cut through more dense material with less damage to the blade itself. Like if you needed for some reason to cut through a car tire that's rubber with steel belts etc... The serrations would grab and tear whereas the plain edge would struggle.
