Setting Studs

Do these need a special setter/anvil set? If so, is there a way of doing it without? I've never used these yet and figured they just snapped in.

don't forget to cover the back of the stud with some thin leather so it can't scuff the blade over time.
 
Damn, I tried setting the ball on the post, and using a small rubber mallet and it wouldnt even get started. I'll have to make something for the ball to sit in like you said and tap it from the backside. Thanks guys.
