Setting up a Rockwell Tester

I bought a used Accupro bench top Rc tester. It appears to be the same as the Grizzly model. It reads consistently low for the test blocks. I'm told there is an adjustment, but reading the instructions is less than helpful. Can anyone help me get this figured out. I've searched the web and can't find anything about adjusting it.

Every brand of tester is different and I'm not familiar with that one or the Grizzly. You likely need to take the top off and see if it has a adjustment screw somewhere. Or maybe have someone come out and calibrate it?

Jesse under the lid at the front there is a small screw with a locknut on it. Put one of your test
blocks under the diamond pin and see where it reads. you may have to play around with it a bit
to get it zeroed. My Grizzly was kind of a bi%#* to get zeroed but I'm happy with it now.
Ken.

Thanks Ken, it's reading 47.5 on the 42.6 test block, so it is about 5 off. It is reading constantly though. The adjustment is from the top? The other owner set it up when he bought it in 2003 and he said it was a pain, but he thought all the adjustments were from the back. The manual says to adjust it if it isn't reading properly, but never in the manual tells you how. I'll take another look at it tomorrow.

how's the diamond cone conditions? higher readings could be due to the cone point being broken

I had to calibrate my Grizzly when I got it as well. Make sure you are using the proper tip (cone vs. ball) for the test block, then fiddle with the screw/lock nut as was suggested. Mine reads accurately on 4 different test blocks now, though it probably took an hour or so to calibrate.

Thanks for the reply ggoose. Is it the screw that sits right over the top of the penatrator? That seems to be the only adjustment screw that I can find.

No...there is an access cover on top of the tester above the dial; remove that cover and you will see the screw/lock nut. I followed the instructions on page 13 beginning with step 14 to calibrate. The instructions take a bit of re-reading to decipher, but they'll get you where you need to be to get accurate tests...

Ok, I played with it for about an hour, and I have it reading right on the number for the high test block (61) and about .5 high on the two lower blocks (46,25). I adjusted the screw directly above the penatrator.

OK, this image is larger than planned, but this is the view of the top of a Grizzly Rc tester with top place removed. See the silver screws? Loosen those a tad, and shift the laminated bar left or right a small amount - this should raise or lower the Rc reading.

Here is a shot of instructions from the book.

Hope this helps,

Ooops, I see you already got it calibrated. I didn't see your last post until after I posted photos.
