Settling Into My House

I started moving into my new house a week ago. Many here have posted in the past about what a pain moving is and I'm not going to be an exception. Fortunately I didn't have that much furniture to move. For the last several days I've been bringing the rest of my stuff over one carload at a time from my old house. Ironically, all I really have left to get is my HI collection.

The first night was an experience for me. I had worked midnights the night before and ended up sleeping from 8:00PM to 3:00AM. I hadn't brought any of my khukuris or guns with me. Even though Carrier Mills is a pretty quiet town, I had some feelings of being naked in the self defense department as I was getting up. I watched some TV on the regular stations, being a bit surprised that there were programs on at that time of night. I had some cereal, not knowing that mom had already brought over the silverware. I ended up substituting a measuring cup for a spoon.

Fast forward to the present. Most of my stuff is arranged where its going to be for the forseeable future. My guns are here in the closet and my WWII is on the table by my bed. I have two spare bedrooms to put extra stuff in. One bedroom is going to be my HI room. Maybe I'll find a good deal on a few tables to help with the arrangement. A couple of tables with khuks in spiral patterns with my UB Salyan and Yangdu Special in the center would be a nice touch.

Still have things to do. Still need to change my mailing address for some of my magazine subscriptions and credit card. A laundry basket, toaster, and pasta strainer are on my shopping list. I'll be heading over to the courthouse in the town nearby to update my voter registeration status. There's a half grown black and white kitten that hides under my shed. Perhaps some catfood and time in the backyard will make it mine.

Is it just me or is Munk starting to rub off on me.

I have two...great little buddies that meet me at the door each day.

BTW, I was at an Odd Lots the other day...they had a real nice pasta "kit"...a nice stainless pot and strainer combo...just a few bucks so I picked one up myself.

Too bad you're so far away, Bob. We could have a "barn raisin'" for ya.

I don't know how many times I've moved in my life now. My Dad was in aerospace tech and we moved a lot. Then I moved a lot as an adult. We've been here in Montana about as long as it's ever lasted- five years I think. The wife's painting all the rooms in anticipation of selling the house. I have no idea where she think's we'll go.

I've picked up most the household goods and driven State to State several times now. I'm older and don't want to go on such a hell run again. In fate's hands, I guess. There is nothing new on the horizan.

It's strange moving, Big Bob. Sorry we couldn't help lift all the stuff.

Congrats on surviving the move Bob! ;) :D

I've been in this place for almost 26 years now and would hate like hell to move, although some items "gone missing" might show up if we did.;)
There are some folks that have moved more than I have I'm sure but I haven't met anyone yet that has.
I had been in 24 states by the time I was 13 yo and often lived in several places in a state during the time we were there.
Being an Army brat has nothing on being the son of an outlaw and on the run much of the time.:o  :(

Well...gee...please accept my congratulations on the new place and my condolences for suffering through a move.

I've 32 now and I've moved five times in my adult life. every household move for me had been like recieving a below the belt kick. Each one different, but exquisitely painful in its own unique way.

Congrats on the new place. I just moved out on my own (i.e. not living in army barracks) in september, and I STILL have boxes full of stuff all over the place. And a couch that is nothing more than cushions on the floor. Been meaning to fix that....

Anyhoo, enjoy the self sufficencies, but dont forget to ask for help from time to time, when you need it.
