Sexy Knife That Won't Break the Bank?

Well now that I have purchased my first knife, an AFCK 806D2, and a Spyderco Sharpmaker, I'm just looking for an inexpensive folder knife that looks attractive/deadly. I plan to use the AFCK as my EDC, but I just want to have this other knife around to practice sharpening on and storing inside my glove compartment or house. I think it'd have to probably be under $50, I would not feel right abusing a knife that cost much more than that.

i would go with a spyderco ss, or maybe even a crkt m16 with aluminum handles

A stainless Spyderco plain-edge Delica...That's the knife you're looking for.

Trust me on this...:).

There are quite a few new knives from CRKT that would be a perfect fit for what you are lookin' for.

The Nealy Pesh-Kabz, Lightfoot M1 and the M16 EDC come to mind. Another one that would hit about that $50.00 upper limit you set is the BladeLOCK or BladeLOCK 2. CRKT have a great looking lineup this year.

I've read around the boards a lot and people don't seem to like how some of the Spydercos look. I checked it out in a local store myself, and I thought the stainless steel varieties looked very sleek and classy. From what I've seen on CRKT's website, I do like how the Bladelocks look as well. But how do they function? Is it similar to BM's AXIS lock at all?

here is my understanding as to how the bladelock works.

1)depress the thumbstud(push towards the blade) to unlock blade
2)rotate knife open
3) release thumbstud, knife will lock open.

its a completely diffrent mechanism than the axis lock, but it functions kind of the same. the main diffrence being that the blade lock locks both open AND closed.

The Bladelock's lock is on the thumbstud. You press it to close or open the knife. Pretty cool design, solid feeling knife. There was recently a thread on it. The lock, however, is not similar to BM's axis lock.

CRKT's version of an axis lock would be the deadbolt-over-grabstep (D.O.G.) lock found on the D.O.G. folder.

Lots of knife companies have a similar lock. Gerber has had one for many years on their Chameleon series, though I've read some bad reviews on it.

Have you looked at the CRKT Mirage series? If you can still find a large plain-edge, it's definitely worth buying. Extremely great value for the $20 I paid for it.

I also really like the CRKT M16 series. My M16-13Z is my only knife that challenges my AFCK as a right-front pocket knife. I would suggest one of the AUS-8 aluminum-handled versions, they're really nice.

Why don't you post a few knives that you find "sexy" to give some idea of what your preference is. As stated above, some find Spyderco's sexy while others find them ugly. My idea of sexy might not fit your idea. Do you like the Microtech Vector, or is a Bob Loveless design more of what you are looking for?

That Microtech Vector is one wicked looking knife. When I searched google for "Bob Loveless", I ended up with a lot of knives that looked like they would appeal to an older generation of people.

I like the curves on the Kershaw Chive and the Kershaw Leek is an interesting one as well. The Spydercos Endura and Delica in SS are pretty slick looking, and the Bladelock from CRKT is unique looking too. I would go for a Microtech Vector (looks like something Batman would use), but it is way beyond the range I'm willing to spend on a knife I plan to abuse to death. Abuse = sharpening when I don't know how, possibly throwing, using as a screwdriver/chisel, and lending to friends who know about as much as me when it comes to knives :p

The CRKT M16 doesn't appeal to me too much, maybe I have something against holes in the handle. Or maybe it looks very "military" which doesn't fit my style very well. I do like how the Crawford/Kasper knives look though, even the ones with the holes. Maybe it's not the holes I'm against. Hmmm...

Outdoor Edge also have a couple of nice knives. The aluminum handled Magna and the Paragee are both good knives and are well priced.

As far a Spyderco is concerned I would also look at the Endura or Endura Lightweight and if you can stretch your budget a little the Native or Native Lightweight is a really good knife.

*Edited to modify recommendation.

particularly good value for money -

For really cheap look at the Kershaw Vapor 1640, or just for the looks the combo/partially serrated edge 1640ST.

The Vapors have very strong frame-locks and all stainless-steel lightening holes drilled handles that to my eyes look very sexy.
Measures: 4" closed, 3" blade, 7" open, and 3.25oz

Best of all these are a mere $19.99 from your local Wal*Mart.

If you need a larger version there are the Vapor II - 1650 and 1650ST at 4.5" closed, 3.5" blade, and 4.5oz.

However, if you really want "sexy" in functionality - and perhaps don't mind the possible legal hassles, there are the Kershaw/Ken Onion LEEKs 1660 and 1660ST with Speed-Safe assisted opening using the Index-Open that's really fast - it is currently my favorite knife that's now my at home EDC.

Kershaw/Ken Onion LEEK reviewed here

hmmm...you're looking for something cheap, "sexy", "wicked", that will stand up to "possibly throwing, using as a screwdriver/chisel, and lending to friends"

I have to ask...how old are you?

I would say grab CRKT Lightfoot URBAN SHARK if you can since they've been discontinued. This is the sexiest CRKT, IMHO.

One of my light and general use pocket knives is the Kershaw Liner Action folder, drop point, non serrated. It is sleek and well made although it does not appear threatening or wicked. That is one of the main reasons I carry it, when in a suit and tie. The liner lock is stout, a little over a three inch blade and the body is aluminum with poly inserts. Not too much money at about $ 30.00. Great to practice sharpening on, it has I beleive AUS 6 steel.

My two bits worth.

Hmmmm, "sexy" knife that wont break the bank. Well, i'd say off the top of my head that any knife with large, round breasts would work well, problem is, generally, anything with large round breasts WILL break the bank, and then some... :)

The thread seems to be digressing, but before it did, there were some useful comments. If the Kershaw Vapor 1640 is indeed $20 at Walmart, that would definitely fit the bill. I do like the Urban Shark as well, the blade looks a little short compared to the body, but it still looks nice.

Before I made this thread, I did not think there was anything out there that would be cheap, fancy looking, AND functional. Most of the knives listed here seem to contain all three elements.

Now let me respond to a few of the off topic replies. First, I do not intend to insult anyone. I'm new here, and I do not want to get flamed immediately/not taken seriously. I do not see how age could be relevant to anything here. Knives is what everyone here is interested in. Some people's ages would possibly make them less credible than others, even though they may possibly be more skilled in knives. In no way am I saying I'm skilled in knives, I'm absolutely new to this. I used those words, because I do understand they won't be taken as seriously. Similarly, the "cheap and sexy/wicked" knife I purchase won't be taken seriously either. Hence the abuse it may get. I do not expect it to withstand abuse at all. Secondly, big breasts are nice, but I'm seeking a knife without them for now.
