SF1 XXL , a short sword (kind of)

Well I had a order for one of my SF1's but my customer wanted one larger than my large, so I made an XL and just for fun I made an XXL so here it is.

the blade is 1/4" 5160 and mirror polished. the handles have black linen micarta and bright red liners. the remove and much weight as possible I brought the grind all the way up to the spine and I tapered the tang this makes the SF1 XXL considerably lighter than the XL. this is definitely a favorite of mine, its so easy to wield and the feels so light.

For the quench I had the use a tub instead of a bucket because the blade was so long this cause a slight re-curve in the blade. I thought about fixing it but I think is adds to the the blades character, just something the buyer should be aware of.

OAL: 17"
Edge: 11.5"
Grind: flat

This was a fun knife to build. As a ( relatively) new maker this knife seemed very daunting but i'm very pleased with the results. I will definitely be experimenting with some larger blades, I really enjoyed this project.

My grandfather is a pretty skilled knifemaker, I dont think he ever made any that big though. Whats it made of, tool steel right?

Its made of 5160 which some people consider a tool steel but its a high alloy carbon steel. Its great for this application, it will take one heck of a beating.
