SFNO HRLM comparison

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the SRKW's HRLM is essentially a shruken down version of Busse's SFNO (Special Forces Natural Outlaw)? For some reason I just noticed the strong similarity between the two. With the popularity of the SFNO, I sure hope we see some more HRLMs. I need to pick up a few more.

Does anyone have a pic of both blades side by side. I don't own an SFNO, but my HRLM gets a lot of love.

I posted this over on the Swamp Rat subforum as well. THanks.

I never looked at it that way, I just thought of the LM as darn near the perfect belt knife, and have been hoping that one of these days a Busse of similar size would come down the line.

With all the recent talk of a bushcraft knife the HRLM jumps to mind immediately. Make one Busse style, same basic grip shape, thinner INFI stock, maybe one inch longer blade same basic shape. Green linen and satin, I'll take a couple!

Dont' gut no SFNO's. Gutta HRLM. Love it for small jobs.

Alas, I have so many knives now that no one knife gets much use. :(

WE NEED PICS! Come on Hogs. Don't be afraid to admit you got some Rats in the sty as well.

Oh, I got Rats alright. I actually have both of the blades in question. Now if someone would lend me a camera...:)

I can't see the pics here at work but admit I had never thought of the comparison. I do know the HRLM is one of the most useful and handy belt knives ever conceived! The black and muddy are great, green and sage would be wonderful and Pedropcola's idea of green linen and satin (or doublecut) would be just perfect. I don't know about the extra inch though; the 4 1/8" is great whereas the 5" BATAC is a big knife to maneuver in tight quarters. Let's see 'em!

I was thinkin this morning. I wonder if I sent off my HRLM to one of our resident knife guys and had some hand-shaped yellow G10 put on in place of that greenish black canvas micarta. Sorta like a honkin-big SAR-Warden. :)

Hmmmmmmmm. . . . . . And open that choil up just a bit too while they are at it. I like that black/yellow look but don't want a SAR Warden at current prices.

I could be convinced to shed that inch of blade. But I don't believe it would be necessary. Put your HRLM next to a BATAC and there is no comparison in size or weight. The BATAC is huge. I think a HRLM Busse (especially with a skeletonized tang) would be a lot of useful blade (read small to no choil) in a lightweight handy package. I like my BATAC with mags but it is cumbersome for a hike in the woods and usually loses out to a Game Warden or BRKT (which make some very nice woodswalking knives).

I have both knives in front of me. The BATAC has roughly half an inch more useful blade than the HRLM. Make the Busse HRLM half an inch longer and make the choil go away or get very small then you actually have more blade the the BATAC in a more compact package. The choil in the HR right now is big enough to lose blade length and too small to actually use without mods. There are a bunch of guys who have modded it larger by going back towards the grip to make a usable choil. On this bushcraft one get rid of it. Full height grind, thin, satin (or DC) tiny bit more blade (why not). I have read that they lost the CNC program for the rope grips but the style on the HRLM is very grippy and would work perfectly for this knife. Or just make the Game Warden II and add same profile blade but inch and a half longer.

I have read that they lost the CNC program for the rope grips

That just kills me when I read stuff like that. So spend Twenty minutes and write another program.
Its done everyday all over the world. Tell me what machine its for and I'll look for a post from Mastercam.

By the way I love my HRLM and my SFNO's If I could put my SFNO on a photo copier and reduce its size to that of an HRLM, I think.... wait a minute that just gave me an idea.

Anyone have pics of these two side by side? I would post pics of mine but, er.... I don't have eather. :o

I will take some pics of mine, but they won't be as good as many pics people here take. I'll post them up in 2-3 hours when I get home, assuming someone hasn't already beaten me to it. :p
