SFNO vs NMSFNO

Were there any NMSFNO's at Knob Creek? It looked like there were some in the picture? I'm trying to get some idea of how they feel compared to a standard SFNO. How much were the standard SFNO's at the creek? I don't think I'm going to be able to afford both, so it looks like I'm going to have to choose between the SFNO and the NMSFNO. Leaning toward the NM as it is cheaper by a good bit. Opinions?

I dunno man...I just got my epicganzaaaa SFNO from a hog yesterday. It's a perfect size, good weight and balance. Anything longer would have been too much.
If you're looking for an all arounder, get the original, if you want a chopper, get the new one.

That LE model looks mouth wateringly tempting. :D

i bought one of each .....old and new...... I'm not good with decisions.

It would be cool to see some pics of both side by side from Hogs who went to Knob Creek and may have picked up a NMSFNO. Just a straight shot from the side please, no fancy angles that distort the perspective.

Which reminds me, I hate it when people put a knife up for sale that I may want and all they have is three crazy pictures taken from extreme angles. I'm not talking about Busse here, but folks on the forums. They think they're making the knife look better, but all they're doing is keeping seasoned buyers away because we can't tell what the knife really looks like. Drives me bananas with cars, also.

Ahhh, I feel better.

For the money I think a Sarsquatch is a better knife than the old SFNO, and it might be better "period".

The new SFNO might be a great knife; but we'll have to wait and see. It looks like it could be on par with the big SHSHs:cool:

Hey I was thinking exactly the same ! That's why I took a Sarsquatch and I already ordered the new SFNO ! :D

I'm a one in one out kinda guy. I don't have the moulah to have a collection. I bought a Sarsquatch and sold my Chopweiler. Now I'm torn with replacing the Sarsquatch with a SFNO? Are they THAT MUCH BETTER? The money is about the same as I can't go the $500.00 knives. What to do?
I respect all opinions.

If you plan to use your knife for chopping/batoning the new SFNO can perform better than the Sarsquatch because of the bigger thickness and because it doesn't have the swedge in the tip area.

If you plan to use it mostly as a camp knife and for light tasks the Sarquatch is surely a better choice.

By a camp knife would the RT4 that I ordered but not yet received from Ban qualify?

Whether or not you know it, I think you just made a lot of us Sarsquatch owners feel better about not wanting to cough up the dough for an original SFNO. My prediction is that in a year or two the squatch will be as coveted and as valuable as the SFNO's are now. The sarsquatch rules, but a sabre ground satin SFNO with black mag's is a thing of beauty, almost toooo pretty to beat, but Id still give it a workout. I ordered a NMSFNO, the price is right and I think it's going to be an awesome blade, I can't wait.

+1. It's why I've hesitated to order one. I've got a CS one and while it's nice and comfy (hand-shaped handles) it's too big. The Squatch does pretty much the same job in a more compact package, I think.

But I still look at them daily. LOL

Depending on the actual distribution of mass along the axis of the knife, the new NMSFNO should chop better than a SARSquatch. Anyway, that's what theory tells me.

I'm waiting impatiently to make the experiment.

I think you're right about the new knife being 'on par' with the SHSH. But ... we'll see. Theory can only go so far (and I'd need to make too many measurements to make an accurate prediction; best to simply do the tests).

And there are ancillary, but still important, issues like twisting torques -- their presence can make any chopping implement unpleasant to use.

My answer is probably familiar to most of you ... you've heard Dr. Lunde say it often enough.

Get 'em all.

It's the only way to be sure!
