SFO won't answer...

Hi, folks.

I sent a message to the Spyderco Factory Outlet, at sfo@spyderco.com, asking if they still had the Matriarchs for sale, and whether I could pay with my credit cards. That happened 8 days ago, and they still haven't answered me. I even sent them a second message a few days ago, stating that I'm a long-time Spyderco customer and asking for a simple "yes" or "no" - still, no answer.

I find that apparent disregard for a customer's queries hard to understand, especially when the company's president, Sal Glesser, gives us a lot of attention in this forum. I'm sure that's not his policy...

Regards,

Leo Daher

I've used the toll free number several times. I've always been treated with the utmost courtesy. I've had no problems using credit cards. I've e-mailed a few times as well and always received a timely answer. Based upon on my experience with Spyderco, I'd have to guess it's an e-mail problem.

Ben, I hope you're right.

BTW, I e-mailed instead of calling because I'm in another country now, and the international rates are ridiculously expensive around here (about 3 times as much as an equivalent call from the U.S.).

Maybe Sal can clarify things...

Leo,

Fozzy may have a point. My past experience with Spyderco, combined with Sal's involvement with the Forums leads me to believe that Spyderco is very customer service oriented. They really do value input from us and make a concerted effort to accomodate our needs. Give them a call. It may however be unnecessary; since you posted, Spyderco may already actively be rectifying your situation.

Leo - sorry for your frustration. Emails are usually answerred the next day. I know the computer in customer service was out of commission for several days. Your message might've gotten lost.

It is my understanding that Matriarchs are no longer available through SFO.

Like I said, I hope you guys are right. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Spyderco, and I believe they've forever changed the knife world with their inovations.

Besides, I really appreciate the way Sal is always ready to answer our questions. That's why I was surprised when there was no reply from SFO...

Thanks for the answer, Sal... I knew I could count on you

OTOH, I'm really frustrated to hear about the Matriarch. I had to be away from the forums for a couple of months - my Internet time was mostly dedicated to fighting some proposed legislation that would ban the private ownership of firearms in Brazil - so I wasn't aware of this offer from Spyderco until it was too late. Oh, well...

P.S. - I gotta get out of here!

Oh, and BTW... I could buy a Civilian instead, but I'm a southpaw, and the reversible clip on the Matriarch was a very nice touch.

If there's ever a left-handed version of the Civilian, you can count on me buying it.

Leo Daher

Given that the Civilian is a lock-back, all you have to do is mount the clip to the other side. Or just take the clip off. The handle is symmetric; the SpydieHole is way out there, and doesn't require any cutouts. I'd love to see an ambi Axis-like lock on the Civilian, but the current model isn't bad.

AFAIK, there are plenty of Civies floating around for sale. Of course, they're considerably more expensive than the BF-members price for the Matriarch was, but a Civilian is a lot more solid than a Matriarch.

I have tried to email you several times (the email address on bladeforums is incorrect?). Anyway, I do apologise, we have been very busy here & haven't had tome to address our email problem (just some quirks with the new ISDN line. We still have some (8) Matriarchs left. If you want to email me personally (charliegleek@hotmail.com) with your phone # & the best time to call you. I'd be more than happy to pick up the tab for the phone call.

I'll be e-mailing you right now. Don't know what could be wrong with my address on Bladeforums - just went to check my profile, and it seems right to me.

Anyway, talk to you later. Thanks a lot!

Leo Daher
