New image/old story - A magnificent piece acquired in a perfect trade with Murray White. And a new Paul Long sheath (ironically, also involving a trade) to go with it. Hard to describe the beauty in words, so the image does the talking.

+1  That knife and sheath combination is just awesome....but seems out of your collection style Bob:D

Peter

Peter, I have had a desire to acquire this Sfreddo since the day I first laid eyes on it. I don't believe Murray had any intention of selling or trading it, but when I proposed a certain trade, Murray agreed.

You are right in that it does not seem to fit within my typical style of collecting. Rather, it transcends it. Bob

Absolutely a beauty and can only imagine what you must have traded to get this one. He is a maker whose work I have wanted but seems to consistently challenge me as to date I have been unsuccessful. Anyone out there with a nice piece please let me know as I will be happy to trade, provide $$, any combination needed with the right deal.

Bob, great get and congratulations :thumbup:

So is that a full integral or have the gaurd, frame & butt been forge welded on separately?
Cheers Bruce

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it's a full integral. The pattern of the damascus, followed from one end of the knife to the other, doesn't give away anything but an even flow of pattern from one end to the other.

here is the other half of the trade Bob and I made

and the only reason the trade was made was because I own this RS beauty

I have long been a Curt Erickson fan so both Bob and I are happy campers. RS also know I want to find more interesting pieces from him in the future.

I won't go out on a limb as I haven't examined Bob's knife, however Rodrigo did a 'work in progress' here on his damascus "integral" construction about 2 years ago which depicted his guard being welded on separately.

So I guess whether his knives are, or are not full integrals depends on your point of view.
Good augments have been made in past threads supporting both sides.

yes, Kevin, you are correct but I was hoping that RS would wade into the discussion and explain his technique.

That does seem to be a WIN WIN trade. An exquisite Erickson/Warenski for an outstanding RS.

Both are exceptional knives.

Pleasure seeing them.

Peter

Bob,

That it a beautiful knife. Rodrigo Sffreddo is in a class by himself.

Murray,

That's also a great knife.

Congratulations on the trade.

Jim

Thanks, Murray, for displaying the other side of the trade. Two great knifemakers, two great knives involved in this trade. No one went away unhappy.

I need to come by and have a peek at that one Murray - very nice indeed.
