SG Subhilt Fighter by Steven Rapp...

Mr. Rapp is a VERY skilled craftsman.

You can't tell me that you guys around here don't see the Rod Chappel influence in this piece?

This is Chappel's signature style.

Steve executed it very very well.

You cannot make THIS knife without it weighing about 5 pounds, but it feels suprisingly lively in the hand.

Nick, it IS Chappel style(Chapel is the way to pronounce, it BTW), it is also Steven Rapp style as he moved it in some very different directions. This contrast would not be unlike Loveless and S.R. Johnson.

On this one, I re-drew some elements, such as changing angles, and reducing the width of the guard, as well as a curvature change in the choil area. It is the first subhilt that Steven Rapp has made in at least 3 years, and the changes were to Cody's Fighter which initially attracted me to the designs back in the mid '90's. Wanted to use ivory micarta, but Steven talked me into a natural handle material.

Steven ALSO got the weight down to less than 2 lbs, and it is very quick, this would be an efficient fighting knife, do you not agree, Coop?

Coop did a great job with the photographs.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

hey, STeven, great purchase and as usual Coop really does it justice. I love the way the whole pattern to the sheath fits the lines and design of the knife.

I love SR's work. He makes incredible knives in a lot of styles. I missed getting a hunter from him in 2004 as he left the show early Sunday and I did not realize it. He makes few of them and I'm sorry I did not get it. Nice stone handled piece.

I just love his Price style knives and of course I love the SubHilt. Soon will be posting one by Dan Farr which arrived the other day.

I got to hold that Exceptional knife,Everything about it is as Close to Perfection as Humanly Possible. It's One Helluva Knife 2 Be Sure.

What a great knife. Rapp is a favorite of mine even though I own none of his knives.

Congratulations!

Very nice indeed Steven! I do see a strong Chapel "Fighting Leopard" style here. But also the influence of Bill Luckett, a light touch of Lovestrand, with the final having a strong WW Cronk flavor. All beautifully blended together into his own master piece. BEAUTIFUL!!! For what it's worth, a Chapel F.L. is one heavy Knife. I like the weight you spec'd. Much better suited to being carried and used. As if anyone would ever do such a thing! Mike

that knife is smokin'!!!!!!

Sure has a lot going on too!!!!

I have always admired his knives..........top notch piece! :)

I agree with everything that you said except for the Lovestrand touch, Mike, don't see it.

Just got it back from Coop, and it weighed out at about 1 1/4 lbs, 21.1 oz to be exact. While no featherweight, it is not a boat anchor either, and that is what my partner and I lovingly referred to Rod Chappel's big knives as.

STeven, was this at the Blade show? Just wondering it was the award winner!

I have to say that this knife looks just as good dressed as it does unsheathed ..... Probably one of the nicest bits of leather work I have seen ... it looks as thought the knife and sheath came from the same mother!

Cheers,

Stephen

That is an "Oh MY Gosh" pretty knife.....and the sheath is icing on the cake.

A once in a lifetime pairing.

Hey Stephen.....no, was not at Blade, just arrived back from Coop a day or two before Blade, as a matter of fact. Not sure what Steven Rapp got the award for.

Thanks for the compliments.

Regardless that THIS knife wasn't at Blade, the fact that Steve Rapp won 'Best in Show', AND 'Best Fixed Blade' is a solid punctuation mark on your collection statement.

Congrats once again. What a fine package!
