Kurk H. is a good friend of mine. He's a former E7 with time in both the Navy and in the Army as an 11C. He's going to be directly commissioned in the Army after he finishes nursing school.

Anyway, Kurk's wife is a Major in the Army. She is now deployed to Iraq for the second time, helping the troops keep their heads on straight. When the Army tried to reactivate me this summer, I was already about to move out of my old place.

Kurk offered to let me stay with him for as long as needed until I got everything with the Army sorted out (I should have an update for the forum very soon, incidentally).

He's been such a good friend, I wanted to do something nice for Kurk. He's one of those odd types that likes to wear those checkered dresses, so when he told me he was looking for a suitable knife for his stocking :p ...

Made by our very own Shane Justice, here it is:

Aye, a bonnie beauty, a true Scot will appreciate.

Gah, I hate those garbage ones you see with the purple junk jewel... does Shane have a web site?

Hm, John do you know what a quaich is?

Scottish friends gave me one, it's a gift of the heart also.

Maybe a kevlar sporran, also... might come in handy.

sweet, I really like the handle, what is the material? the bolster is really cool too. I also bleed tartan. I recently rehandled a cold steel culloden the full size one --a good project blade I 'll find a pic.

Ho Ho Ho

No prob, Dave, nice to see yours. I'll have to check with Shane on the handle, I don't remember offhand if it's stag or bone.

Here's the American cousin, with black and green micarta:

Thanks, Kismet.

Mike, I know what a quaich is now. More net searches will have to wait until tomorrow...

WOW. Shane really did up a nice one. His grinding is awesome. I absolutely LOVE my Sgian Dubh from Sarge. On the days I wear flimsy socks, I stick that bad boy in my pocket. Something good about carrying it. Everyone I show it to loves it too. My favorite knife.

Beautiful work, good to see that Shane's getting his health back and keeping his hammer busy.

OK, the Sgian Dhub is forged 52100, Asian buffalo horn, and stag.

And, omigod, is it beautiful. I pulled it out of the package today, unwrapped it, and said, "Oh...my...god. It's perfect." And it is. :)

Dang it is funny to see my work on-line...

...and it is humbling too....honestly...

Thanks for all the nice words...

Both blades are about the same in profile...

but the modern version has a 3/16th in thick blade(at the guard)...while the proper version is 1/8 inch at the guard/spacer...

What I tried to do was make a sort of proper version ...and then pull off a modern version of the same knife...

Shane

You make beautiful knives Shane. I'm honored to post with you.

Howdy, folks. The knife Spectre dubbed "The American Cousin" is now a prized possession of mine. Beautiful work, Mr. Justice.

Hey Man...welcome to the HI forum!

I am so glad you liked it!

Use it well...and keep me up on how it does!

Shane

Byron;

Are the infamous friend of Spectre's I've heard much about??? Welcome to HI land.

btw, the name, Byron Quick, is pretty damned cool. My own real name is not terribly inspiring. You and Shane Justice and Cougar Allen got the remarkable handles.
