Hello everybody, I'm new to this whole business of knives in general. I got a sog carry clip a week ago to use for day to day things, but I think I might have a chance to buy either a Shabaria PS or PE. Which one should I go with? (Two is a bit out of range...)

Whichever one you like! They are not too common, so if you only have one it should be the one you really want -- you never know when you'll get another chance.

Personally I love the look of the plain edge. It just looks cleaner and flows better visually.

Plain edge is worth more, and the lines flow better on a PE.

Either one would be good though, you don't see them much anymore.

Unless you have a specific use in mind for the serrations, such as frequent rope-cutting, get the plain edge. I have two plain-edge Shabarias, and kept reasonably sharp (which is easy) they cut very well without serrations.

You are right about the Shabaria being scarce. When you look them up on a 2000 Dealer's catalog you will see that they were a "Limited Quanity based on Demand" basis. With that being printed in the catalog I would say that one batch would have to have been sold out before another batch was made. I believe I was told that the Titanium ATR was under the same scenerio.

I agree that the plain edged version would be the most popular for a collection in the long run but as rare as that knife is and as hard to find as it is going to be in the near future I don't think it makes much difference at all which one you would put in your collection. They are a collector's classic for sure.

i'll see if i can't get that plain edge, since i don't think i'll be able to bring myself to use it. that and i don't think it's legal in either d.c. or boston to carry around. thanks for all the input!
