Oh Yeah! Sweeeet! http://www.spyderco.com/displayproduct.cfm?productid=26

Will this one make it into production? It looks like a knife you would need to hold to truly appreciate it.

It's in production! That's a picture of the production knife(I think), not a prototype.

The picture on the site was taken of the prototype. Production is expected to begin shipping early next month.

It is a very interesting design. It has a very high blade to handle ratio. Actually, though the appearance may be deceiving, the blade is about the same size as the Police model.

How many are you planning to make? Micarta handle, VG-10 steel, 3 7/8 in. blade length, liner lock... sounds good to me! What did the final weight work out to be?

Only a limited quantity, hopefully. It just makes having them that much sweeter.

Mr. Glesser,
In the prototype the Spydie hole looks slightly blocked by the handle. Is the production version going to have more access on both sides?? Just wondering.

Blades

Blades - The prodution pattern differs from the prototype only on the angle of the top back of the spine. So access to the hole from the back side will be limited.

Ewok - get back to you tomorrow o0n the liners. Need to check on the first batch.

Sal,

Will this modification affect the appearance of the knife enough to have to replace the current images up on the Spyderco site?
I'm not understanding exactly what the modification you described will do to the appearance, but hopefully it won't change the nice flow of the current contours.

Thanks,
Ken

I noticed the limited hole access from the back side. I've been mentally taking a Dremel tool to the knife since I first saw the pics

Otherwise, what a fantastic design. It's topped my "most wanted" list for months. Soon?

Welllll it's not really a true hawkbill style blade, but it'll do. Guess I'll have to get one. What a relief, there were a few sheckles left in the drawer, and I wasn't sure WHAT to spend them on!

Sal,

Thank you for not altering the open position contours. It just looks so seductive as it is!

Ken

What was changed on the closed shape? I like it OK as pictured, but that exposed, sharp tang corner is going to snag like crazy on the draw, and doesn't do the "flow" of the closed shape any good, either.
