I only want to keep one high-end dress slipjoint, but I like both of these so much I just cant decide which to keep. Each has its special qualities, and both are among the nicest slipjoints Ive ever handled. First one to sell makes my mind up on which to keep.
Both have 3 blades.
This Shadley Coke bottle is absolutely new/mint. I dont think youll find another Shadley this size for sale right now thats this nice--at any price--and I know you wont find anything in its class for under $900. Hand-rubbed ATS34 blade, stainless bolsters and escutcheon, beautiful deep root beer (or would that be coca-cola?) jigged-bone scales. Perfectly crafted, of course. Ill take OFF THE MARKET --money order only/shipped conus.
The Tomes Ive owned for some time. Ive carried this knife less than a dozen times, typically when wearing a suit. Its opened a package or two and cut a thread here and there, but still has PJs original edge which is finely-ground and razor sharp. In just the right light, you can see the very light surface scratches that naturally come from pocket carry--on bolsters and on the ivory--but you really have to look close. There are two parallel shallow scratches on the right side of the blade, each about 1/16 long--again, you really have to look for them. To me, this knife is special for three reasons. First of all, its just a beautifully well-made Mastersmith folder. Secondly, the steel is CPM S90V (420V by the old designation), and PJ is one of the few makers who have really fine-tuned the use of cryogenics on this steel. The edge-holding properties are beyond anything I would ever test on a dress folder, but if you appreciate fine steel as much as I do, it just doesnt get any better than this. And third, the fossil bark mastodon ivory is drop-dead delicious. Ill take $OLD shipped conus, money order only.
Thanks!
Will
