Some pictures with my shadow IV in africa, my last safari !

This hippo. was very dangerous near the river,

The shadow IV with its brothers africans knives

2 buffalos also:

I used this knife on 1 hippo., 2 buffalos and some antelopes.
Only a word : the shadow IV is a little "big knife"...really great.

Cool pictures!
Your nick is suaheli, are these pics from Tanzania?

I think the african daggers on the third picture look cool!

I think killing that Hippo is obscene. What sport is that? Blah..no risk to you whatsoever with that big bloody rifle you have. Like to see you kill it with your shadow. I am not an anti hunter by any means, and I appreciate that you eat what you kill, but I still think it is off. Arent they protected anyway? This is not a personal attack on you..how you spend your time is your choice..I only comment because you put the pictures up.

i always miss pics in this forum. so thank you for these great pics, hatari
hunting will always be a point of discussion, so no comment from my side.
i like your shots and pics ;)

stay safe

I heard the animal that kills most people in Africa is the hippo. They can be really dangerous and aggressive.
Haven't seen it for myself though.

National Geographic recently had a fascinating program on the hippo. Yes they kill people and without provocation !!! The most interesting point was that DNA studies have shown they are closely related to whales !

Hatari, excellent pics of your hunt and the use of your shadow, thanks for sharing them with us!

how did the Shadow IV fare when compared to those thin bladed African knives?

I always though hippos were fat. the meat looks surprisingly lean....

Out of curiousity, did you actually do any of the gutting and cleaning? Not my idea of sport if it's just for the rack on the wall...

Let's do without the dramatics. CRK knives were born in Africa and were meant to be used in the manner presented in the photos. Your personal opinions on his choice to hunt is moot.

I feel sorry for those poor animals. Giving their lives for one man's leisure...

If these are poor animals, what word do you use to describe the animals that never see daylight, live in the dirt without enough room or fresh air and get killed in an industrial manner? Because can't think of any word that would match, if these wild animals are "poor" already. They didn't starve to death, they didn't freeze to death, have no transports behind them and they were not eaten alive by hyenas.

I doubt that the meat was thrown away. Also, hunters in Africa usually have to pay a high price for these hunts - the money is used to help these species to survive so that another source of money and tourism is saved for the future.

I hope you're vegetarian, or else your statement is pretty double-standard.

Some clarifications :
This hippo.killed 2 men near the river, break their pirogue.
So, when I was following a antelope with my PH and trackers near the river, the hippo. charged us with a clear intention. I never had the choice !The black continent is very rough for rifles and knives, it is necessary to have a strong knife. C.R. know exactly the specifications for these knife..a great man:thumbup:

Even better! Good shot and "Waidmanns heil!"

Great pictures and thanks for posting these. It's nice to see a CR in the type of heavy duty action it was designed for. I've always wanted to go on an African hunting Safari. So far they have remained elusive to me though. Maybe some day...

By the way, what caliber rifle did you use on the Hippo and, a factory or hand load?

Hunters pay more and give more money to preserve wild life in Africa and in the US then anyother group. Additionally, even if one is trophy hunting in Africa the kill never goes to waste as it is given to local villages for food and to help preserve their culture and cultural diet. And as noted earlier, Hippos acount for more deaths in Africa then any other animal. It is not like going to the zoo and watching the "poor" creatures that know no other life then the small encampment they live in.

Great hunt and pictures. I have looked at the Shadow IV as my do it all knife, but have decided on the Skinner (just edged out the Sable, pun intended).

OH Lord, I'm green with envy! Great pics and thanks for sharing... Hunting in Africa is my dream.

If that's the case, what's the point of having dialogue in the first place? At the very least, that statement should apply to all opinions regardless of where they stand on this subject.
Hatari,
Glad you got a good kill and happy to hear the locals benefit in many ways from the hunts(menacing animal control, food, preservation), but my view on hunting without using the kills for anything other than trophy-bagging remains. Just my opinion, though(as long as that's still permitted).
