Shadow IV in africa !

For detailing I think the ubejane or a sable would be my choice. But then again, if I can carry more knives on me I would pretty much use all of them.
And Hatari ...my hat is off to you:thumbup: for providing us with the pics and information of your hunt! Good luck on your next one! and bring us more pics if you can I would love to see them.
thanks,
Jules

If that's the case, what's the point of having dialogue in the first place? At the very least, that statement should apply to all opinions regardless of where they stand on this subject.

The post is about the knives and how they were used in Africa. His personal opinions on hunting have no bearing on the original intent of the post. Comments like his are the reason flame wars are born. Focus on the knives and save the "hunting is bad" rant for another time and place.

Great pics. Hey for all of the animal lovers posting here all I have to say is this. I love animals. I love to eat there flesh and wear there fur. Enough said.

I bet that neat little Scout blade of Peter's would be handy too.

or mine......on the right side, easy to spot. One of these days I will take better pic's!

If personal opinions on hunting have no bearing on the original intent of the post, why did the "hunting is good" posts not recieve admonishment?

I see no rants here, just a bunch of folks expressing opinions.Incidently,I hunted for many years, but that point is probably moot.

Cool pics. Its nice to see the knives been used what they were designed for.

I hunted in north Cameroon, near the "Mayo Oldiri" river.
My rifle is a bolt action in cal. .416 Rigby with Federal ammunition in 410 grains.
In comparison with the knifes of african's trackers, the C.R. is more better  The blades of African knives are too flexibles, the blade thickness are ~2mm only, it is not enough !
So, I think that is good to have 2 knives for hunting, maybe 3 knives.

First knife
A skinner like the Ubejane, a very very good knife!!

Second knife
A shadow IV, sable, Project I with a spear point is more better that a clip point...Why ? With a clip point the blade pierce the viscera and it is not good for the meat.
What is the better length of the blade in Africa ?
I think that a good length is 5,5'' or maxi. 7,5'' no more and no less.

Third knife / Option
A good option is a very little knife for skinning near the eyes, ears,etc... but often there is a skinner in the camp and it is this job !!

A last remark with the hollow handle,
I have a firesteel, some sticks of Maya woods, a tablet of water purification and ball cotton in the butt-cap, it is important in Africa !!!
With these knives monoblocs, you have not problems with the smells of blood,etc.. you wash the knife and it is finish...no with a wood,etc.. handle because everytime you have a little blood between the wood, micarta and the handle and with 35 °C after 1 day, what a stink !!!

Here is my personal opinion.

Collucci...if people only want to hear what they want to hear they should talk to themselves and right self addressed emails. I couldn't care less what you think of my opinion. Yes it is very nice that the shadow could cave up the meat...big whoop..so can the chefs knife I just sharpened up tonight to cut the fat off the rump steak I cooked. I am not an anti hunter, and as I said it is good that they ate the meat. However, I find a pose like that first picture obscene where they appear to be gloating over the dead carcass like it is some sort of achievement. How easy is it to put a bullet through a target like that sitting in the water from 100mtres or more with a high powered rifle and a scope. Piece of pi$$. Lets see him take it out with a compound bow and then I will applaud him. Better yet, lets see him take out a lion or massive wild pig with the bow. Anyway..thats it from me, I am not interested in going on about this. One thing I will make clear though is that I am not some anti hunting lobbyist, so long as the animal is taken for food and not sport.

Hatari wanted to share the pictures of his hunt, no more no less. I don't think he wanted to impress you, Irezumi.
What he did and why he did it, is his business. Bow-hunting is in some countries considered as cruelty towards animals. How different opinions can be...

So how many of the "Scout" knives are floating around?

I do wish CRK would make it part of their catalog . . . then again, I wish for a lot of things I can't afford . . . like my first CRK One Piece.

Great pics.
I only wish that someday I would have the chance to hunt in Africa.
BTW what does Hippo taste like,Beef?

only one is a real & true discussed & done co-lab between Chris and of his friends from across the seas... if that's what you ask about ;)

(AWESOME pictoral BTW. And the truth about hippos is VERY different than what one could see on Cartoon Network Sunday afternoon...)

Hippo's can be very unpredictable if you are in there immediate area! Excellent choice to take the defensive shot , glad nobody was harmed.
Great pictures:thumbup:

I am against hunting, but Hippo's are renowned to be dangerous and volatile. So good kill if it saved some lives. I'm sure the meat was utilized...

I don't agree with the buffalos deaths, but hey, thats just my opinion... the pics are good either way. Thanks for the post, I think it gives people on both sides of the fence something to ponder their thoughts on.

PS - the CR knife is a beast... thats a lot of work you put it through

A little late to the party, but good on ya' Hatari!

Nice shooting and nice carving. I just wish I could've sat around the fire with you and enjoyed a steak. :D

Maybe the others should start a "How does your CR cut tofu?" thread.

It's "easy" to shoot one of the most dangerous animals in Africa? Yeah, okay. And "Pit bulls have locking jaws..." right?

A suggestion: A little less conversation, a little more action. Get out, put the stops on something moving and then see how your blade cuts.
