Shadow knife construction

Does the washer on a shadow knife go all the way thru to the liner or does it stop short and hold the scale on? Normally you see these with micarta....is the best way for finishing micarta simply with progressive grits of sandpaper...or is there a trick here? Thanks

John the washer stops short . That way your assured no problems with separation with the handle material & liner material. And the the way I finish micarta is hand rubbed , then sometimes polished.
