Shadow pattern strengh?

I haven't seen the original discussion, but an Australian knifemaker - Alistair Phillips AKA Cubane on the forums - did a strength test. I'm assuming this is kind of what you all are referring to, since he mentions that Todd Davison did a similar test.

Very impressive, I've been meaning to get another shadow pattern besides the Sodbuster Jr.

Thanks for putting that link up. I should point out though that it is testing the strength of the pivot pin in the scales (G10 or micarta) without a reinforcement not the strength of a bolstered scale versus a shadow pattern.

I picked up this odd shadow pattern last year. This "Sportster" is made of "Red Fibre" material. Probably made in the late 40's, or early 50's. Don't see too many birdseye campers, with no shackle. I have not used it but it is really still tight and solid years later.

Alistair,

Those are some very nicely done stuff. I think it would be awesome if you do a few more patterns. Swayback or Zulu blades.

God Bless

Thank you. Yes that is the plan to start expanding my range. Now that I have done enough back pocket ones I feel like I have made enough mistakes and learnt enough to start a few new patterns. I have an order for a peanut pattern that Tony Bose kindly gave me the pattern for so that will be the next one I do. Then I am quite keen to do a Wharncliffe swayback. I would also quite like to try some more handle materials out. I have used wood, micarta and G10 so far but I would like to try some of the more exotic materials out like mammoth and mother of pearl. I am also in the process of doing my first bone handled knife so you'll be seeing some more of those soon. Maybe some multi-blades as well ;) So much to do and so little time.

I don't know the thread but it was a response from Todd Davison to Don Hanson showing how he had been able to bend the blade without destroying the handle.

Mike,

I think it was Bruce Bump? That I was trying to convince??

But you know those Master Smith's? They all look the same........:D

Great thread -
