Shady Ebay sellers

So, I'm surfing around on Ebay one day last week, and decided to do a search. I type in custom knives, and what comes up? A bunch of various knives; some custom, some factory and some outright junky factory. One knife that jumped out at me as particularly funny(as in shady) was a listing for a Jimmy Lile custom hunting knife. I click on the link and up comes a junky foreign made copy of a Lile hunter.

I probably should have just went away and left things alone, but I just had to ask the seller a question. Just in case he really didnt know what he was selling. I sent him a message that basically said the knife he was selling was NOT a Jimmy Lile knife, and was in fact a imported factory knife. I mentioned that he should change his listing to reflect something other than "Custom".

This joker replies back that I need to read the description first, before casting any stones. Then, he says that the knife is a custom reproduction, authorized personally by Mr. Lile himself! I reply back that it would be kinda hard for it to be authorized by Jimmy Lile, since he has been dead for many years. Again, I stress that he needs to do the right thing, and change his description.

Next thing I know, I get a reply from the clown, calling me a bunch of names, and that he has sold a bunch of these high quality custom knives to knowledgeable buyers already. I reply back that I am not, in fact, the bad things that he called me, and that I was only trying to make sure something was accurate and not misleading(not to mention, downright fraud). No further response from this guy.

His Ebay ID is: captchuck4

Do a search of all the listings he has, and you will see that he is a slimeball and that all he sells is cheapo, ripoff junk, and has several bad feedback listings. If nothing else, it makes for interesting and informative reading!

I would just hate to see anybody else get ripped off by this guy or others like him.

I myself have informed people before also about misleading advertisement (on ebay). Sometimes they legitimately do not know, or they are intentional doing something questionable.

One cannot be too careful when dealing on eBay. I am convinced that there are many sellers who are just not knowledgeable but there are also many who knowingly defraud. I had one such dealing last month with a Halifax, Nova Scotia seller (kaycees-hfx)who sent me a different Buck 110 than what was pictured. Those of you who know me know that I have a bit of knowledge about Buck knives. When I politely emailed the seller upon receipt of the knife asking to return it for a refund, he or she told me that an "auctions an auction and a bid is bid" (sic).
Because I have a perfect feedback record, I did not leave negative feedback (or any feedback for that matter) as I feared retribution. In my view, the $20 I was scammed over and above the value of what I received was not worth having my perfect feedback record blemished by an obvious crook and liar. This is one of the shortcomings of eBay's system of checks and balances. The honest or innocent victim can only make his point known but the villian can likewise make his point and who is hurt? Probably both of the individuals. I will say that in over 200 transactions over some three or four years, I have only been really scammed this one time and it was for a relative minor amount. Yes, the innocent party's feedback will look better than that of the crook, but many of the crooks have a lot of positive feedback because they are smart enough to realize that they need to pick and choose when they scam because if they have too many negative feedback comments, no one will do business with them. I have sermonized long enough on this topic but I would be interested in what some of you have to say. I do have a good friend who absolutely refuses to bid on any item if the seller has any negative feedback. I understand his point, but I did point out that he is likely boycotting some innocent individuals who were given negative feedback by a revengeful scammer.

edited to insert a skipped word!

I notified ebay after a seller deliberatly misrepresented what they where selling.

Ebay pulled all that persons autions. You can try that route.

The knife in question actually is an authorized reproduction. It was authorized by Lile Knives before they went out of business. Mike Turber represents the company that makes these knives.

It is wrong to call these knives custom. I noticed this auction the last time I checked out ebay. Pretty pathetic.

I too have seen captchuck´s S!it on ebay. If you read his feed back he has a few folks that say his stuff is S!it.

One word : JUNK

All I can say is Buyer Beware

That's why it's best to buy from dealers and our members here. :)

There are a lot of laughable knife descriptions on E-bay.

There was/is a seller on Ebay selling lots of Microtech autos a few months ago. In all of his descriptions of the Ultratechs, he claimed they had S30V blades and Titanium handles, this just isnt true, so i emailed him, very friendly and politely, to inform him that he was mistaken, he emailed back that he is correct, and that i should get a life. He also, for whatever reason, is fond of adding pictures to his auctions of NAVY SEALS in various combat poses, which has nothing to do with the Ultratech he is selling, and i pointed out that some people might think its in poor taste to use our servicemen in this manner, he, once again, told me to get a life. Oh well, what can you do.

To Larry Oden.
Larry, I believe you have 90 days to leave feedback. Wait until the last day, about a half hour before your time limit is over and leave him a neagative:D
