Shaft fitting AH-1's

Bad idea? Who knows. Unnecessarily complicating matters? Seems that way to me.
If you're doing it for the fun of it, or the curiosity factor, great - but can we not pretend that it's in any way practical?
You wouldn't buy a perfectly-functional hatchet, then replace the head that's designed to be used on it with a more primitive one, would you?

I see what you are getting at, but it might not be a complicated setup to some people. It Might make perfect sense as they have the picture/plans clear in thier mind as they start whatever project or experiment they set out on.

Is hunting with an AH 1 as your primary broadhead a good idea? I dont really see why not? Traditional broadheads have threaded ends for installation and have incorporated fancy twisty razor blades and boast " Maximum penetration and acuracy"...The fact is that the AH 1 is a balanced piece of 1095 steel and is a more of a traditional arrowhead no doubt but still capable of the job..It is just a matter of R&D. We all buy ESEE's because they are phenominal products and are very innovative..ESEE wants us to try new things with thier products...Imagine what they would say if you brought a deer down with your bow and an AH 1...serious bragging rights. Very cool!

Thats my take on it..the AH-1 was designed to impale and spear game..why not add a little velocity and energy?

I've used worse designs over the years. The AH1 would be a great head, so long as it doesn't weigh too much. Zwickey heads were one of my favorites and I even used those with modern compound bows. I believe the record is 27 animals taken with the same head before it was retired. The person that owned and used it didn't want to risk loosing it after that. The AH1 would be an even stronger design, provided the heat treat is proper and up to the task.

This is basically what I've been using . I'll post some pics when I get my camera back.

I will be very careful with proceding with dowels. I've been using metal vinyl covered garden stakes recently, but they bend when subjected to too much force. I played with different lengths. Too long... they fly with not enough force and are innacurate. Too short ,and the flight path is erratic , and launching becomes somewhat dangerous. There is a happy medium definately with shaft length and type of shaft ,overall weight , etc. The sling bow is pretty easy to make. Give it a try fellas !

one of the MANY reasons I love this site!!! Thanks for the link..........

what's the weight on one of those suckers?

At this point I'm thinking it is a highly guarded secret only know to the CIA and NSA. I've asked many times and know body is talking. In fact, one of the manufacture's reps one on one thread and as soon as I asked his disapeared and the thread died. I hope he didn't get taken out. ;)
