I found these in the back yard tonight. There were obviously more but my son mowed the lawn yesterday and took about a half dozen out :(.

Before tossing these in an omlet, I thought I'd get a second opinion. Do these look like Shaggy Manes/Lawyers wigs to you?

As evident by the 'shrooms that were cut down, they have thin veins/gills under the cap and the ones I picked are odorless.

They sure look like 'em to me! But do you trust the advice of strangers on the Intraweb when it comes to eating deadly --I mean delicious-- mushrooms? ;)

I stopped at a buddy's house one day and when I walked through the kitchen, I noticed a big frying pan full of sauteed mushrooms on the stove. I asked about them and he said he had just picked them that day, and I should try one. I did. It was delicious. Then he told me he had some doubts about their edibility and he had been waiting for someone to happen by so he could have them try one.

"If you come by again tomorrow and you're still feeling OK, I'll know it's safe to eat them!" he said. After hearing that, the mushroom sort of came back up into my throat and was stuck there for the rest of the day. I'm still alive, and I still often wonder if he was joking or not....

Thanks des.

I posted on a Michigan baesd forum as well. The consensus there is that they are shaggy's. As you can see in the pic, I used the S&S guied to Mushrooms as well.

All signs point to Shaggy manes. I just like to be sure of these things.

Morels I know. Others, I'm just a bit cautious with.

Thanks again

I always thought shaggy manes were the most fool-proof edible fungi to identify. And I still don't eat them. ;)

I have a regional edible mushroom book, but shaggy manes are distributed world-wide!

They look just like the ones we picked at Porcupine Mountains State Park in the U.P. a couple weeks ago and added to our spicy cajun rice at the campsite. They were delicious.
