This idea come from Ivan Kirpichev in discussion on guns.ru about damascus advantages and disadvantages. He point out that even when damscus does not create really microsaw itself - this saw should be as big as damascus pattern, but however same microsaw in layered steel will looks different then on normal blade.
I tryed to draw picture to demonstrate his idea.
Edge on normal blade after sharpening:
Edge on layered blade with hard and soft steels after sharpening:
Edge on layered blade some use when softer steel went away because it is softer:
As you may see idea is that layers will create different microsaw - Sharp Jaw like microsaw, which may cut different then normal monosteel edge.
Of course this is just hypothesis - what do you think?
