Shallot CPM-110V

I gave it to a friend of mine, does tower installs for a wireless isp. He's faily rough on knives, so feedback from him will be useful, imo. I just had an informal check of the corrosion resistance. My sweat is kinda like hydrochloric acid, the blasted scales actually had rust specks the day after I opened the package. I handled the blade on a hot day and let it sit uncleaned for a few days before handing it off. Not a spot of rust. Dunno if it was mostly the new steel or the stonewash, but it was much better than the 13C26 JYD I had.

My friend is used to carrying AUS8 blades, and cuts cabling, drywall, works off of water towers, down the bayou, etc. Should be a good arena for the 14C28N. Will let you know.

As for 110V; I have a ZDP189 Caly Jr, and I like the wear resistance, but would like a little more chip resistance. Gonna see how this does in that regard.

What a great time to have just found a new job :) I said in the past that using uncommon steels would get me excited about Kershaws knives, and I did not lie.

I really like the lack of writing on the blade. It makes it look very clean and elegant.

Vivi,

You like the lack of writing on the blade?
Usually it's just a model# and date on the back and maybe Kershaw on the front.

I'm a long time Onion fan, and in my first post to Blade Forums, I'd like to say that this looks absolutely gorgeous in S100V. Immediately moving to the front of my wish list.

My favorite Onion knife is the 1660TIZDP Leek. The Ti handle is light and elegant, and that blade is incredible. I wish I had bought another when they first came out--I didn't recognize how fantastic the knife would be at the time.

HEY!!!!!!!
I just noticed the serrations - they are the Kit Carson "half moon" serrations, which in my experience are by far the most effective type! Has Kershaw been using those before on other knives? That shows that this company really pays attention - kudos!!

Welcome!

You're the second "first time poster" here tonight! Stick around! You'll enjoy this bunch...they're always good for a little knowledge and a lotta laughs! :D

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. BF has been a great reference for me for years.

I ordered my 14C28 Random Leek today, and in a rare bout of self-control did *not* order the KS1840CBZDP--waiting for the CPM-110V instead.

Welcome!

I've got a (current) list with about half a dozen "must-have" Kershaws...Every one you mentioned in on that list.

Thomas, do you happen to know if any of these are destined to arrive at shops north of the border? Love the looks of these!

that's a fantastic looking knife with the stonewashed finish. I'll admit, I don't know the first thing about CPM-110v though.

Very high grade powdered steel from Crucible. Excellent resistance to rust, and it will take and hold a very fine edge. Rc of 60 to 62. Thomas has called it "ZDP on Steroids"!

Thomas has called it "ZDP on Steroids"!

Actually i didn't say that, what I did say was a quote I received from Crucible.

As far as 110V goes here are some highlights from Crucible;

Carbon – 2.8%
Chromium – 14.0%
Vanadium – 9.0%
Molybdenum – 3.5%
Cobalt – 2.0%
Columbium – 3.5%

CPMS110V has excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance – better than CPMS90V. It could be referred to as S90V on steroids.

We've been using the scalloped serration on multiple patterns for quite awhile now. Am not familiar with Kit's serrations, but if they are similar, we are in good company.

i'm not sure about this whole steel/steroids mash-up. Sounds like a bad idea. That CPM-110v might go on a roid rage and like, chop some 420J2 in half or something!*

* or baton through a Jeep. This steel sounds like fun.
